Chapter - 8 Awkward conversations

Shreya's POV

The moment the clock struck eight, I knew my peaceful existence had officially expired for the day.

I shut my laptop, stretched my arms, and started arranging the office files scattered across my bed.

Of course.

Even on the day my future marriage was apparently being negotiated downstairs...

I was still working.

Corporate slavery truly had no boundaries.

Just then, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in."

I was too busy gathering papers to notice someone had already entered.

Only when a familiar throat cleared loudly behind me did I turn around.

"Hey Pops!"

My father stood near the door, arms crossed, looking amused.

"Hello Princess."

He walked in slowly.

"I thought I'd find my daughter panicking in front of the mirror deciding what to wear."

He glanced at the laptop.

"Instead I find her doing office work."

I groaned dramatically.

"Well..."

I sat back down.

"After accidentally borrowing your car this morning..."

Father raised an eyebrow.

"You stole it."

"Borrowed."

"Stole."

"Borrowed with emotional permission."

He sighed.

I continued innocently.

"Anyway, because certain extremely annoying billionaires kidnapped my work schedule..."

"I never reached office."

"So I called Henna and asked her to mail me everything."

I pointed at the files.

"And now one leave day later..."

"...I somehow have enough workload to ruin my entire existence."

Father nodded thoughtfully.

"So what you're saying is..."

He pretended to think.

"You cannot attend dinner."

I gasped.

"If you're teasing me right now Papa..."

"That is extremely unfair."

He grinned.

"Oh?"

"So I'm no longer allowed to tease my own daughter?"

I folded my arms.

"Whatever."

He laughed.

Then after a pause, his expression softened.

"So..."

He leaned against the table.

"You actually want to marry this boy?"

I stayed quiet for a few seconds.

That question somehow felt heavier than expected.

Finally I sighed.
