Shreya's POV
I still couldn't fully process what was happening.
At twenty-five, I thought I had life somewhat figured out.
Career? Managed.
Family? Chaotic but lovable.
Love life? Non-existent but peaceful.
And now suddenly—
Marriage.
With my boss.
The devil himself.
And the worst part?
He looked way too comfortable with the idea.
Meanwhile I was actively dodging him like my life depended on it.
Which, honestly, it might.
⸻
I tried my best to avoid him at the dinner table.
So I quietly slipped into a seat beside my aunt.
Safe distance.
Perfect plan.
Except—
"Shreya."
My dad's voice.
I looked up.
"Sit next to Rey."
I froze.
Rey, sitting across, smirked like he had just won a silent war.
I sighed dramatically.
Of course.
I walked over slowly and sat beside him.
The moment I did—
I felt his hand slide under the table and grab mine.
I immediately tried to pull away.
No chance.
His grip was firm.
Calm.
Annoyingly confident.
I glared at him.
He didn't even look at me.
Just continued talking like nothing was happening.
So I gave up.
Not my hand.
Just my dignity.
I focused on my food instead.
Which lasted approximately five minutes.
Then I stood up suddenly.
Everyone looked at me.
I smiled politely.
"I think I'm full."
Which was a lie.
I had eaten exactly two bites.
But emotionally?
Completely overfed.
I turned to leave when my grandfather spoke.
"Shreya."
I paused.
"After dinner, take Rey for a walk in the garden."
I blinked.
Excuse me?
Before I could protest, my mother immediately added—
"And sit with us for engagement discussion."
Of course.
