"And so, for the first time: I swear, always and forever," Ace O'Connell-Mikaelson finished reading to his family.
Rebekah wiped a tear, "that was beautiful."
"Camille would be very proud," Klaus added, giving the boy a soft smile.
"As would Maeve," Freya added, tears streaming down her face.
Elijah placed a hand on Ace's shoulder, squeezing it, "you have done a wonderful job at telling the story."
Liv nodded, "Did Cami not want Maeve to send her back?"
"No," Rebekah cleared her throat, "when the heart issue got severe enough, she decided to die naturally."
"Or as naturally as you can get in a family of the supernatural," Freya elaborated, "she had us turn her before dealing the final blow so she could be with Maeve and Finn."
"Cami's final wish for both Ace and I was to share the beauty of this family with the world," Hope smiled, "so we decided to continue what she had begun with Maeve's memories."
"Maeve would have loved this," Marcel reached for the book to feel it in his hands, "she would have absolutely loved this."
"And she would have been very honored," Kol added, "not to mention impressed, how did you get Elena and Damon to talk?"
"I asked them," Bonnie revealed, "and so did the twins."
"Is it confusing though?" Ace wondered, "given how all of you speak of her so highly and yet so many feel the exact opposite, like Elena and Damon."
"It is only confusing to those who cannot understand," Elijah answered, "and this story is not meant for those who cannot understand."
Kol stifled a laugh ducking his head behind Davina who didn't fare much better herself but she pulled herself together quickly, "I do look forward to the day we can see her again, Maeve but Cami as well."
"I wanted to say goodbye," Freya whispered, "but I suppose it wouldn't have been a goodbye, only a see you later."
Ace smiled in understanding, "because with us Mikaelson's, the story is never finished."

for this author's note i wanted to include my notes for this chapter (not all of which made it in):
Reveal of ace being the author with hope's help
Cami dies which is why they begins to write the story as cami asked them to make sure the beauty of the mikaelsons is shared with the world (cami intended it to be through hope and ace growing up and being a strong and beautiful/handsome etc but they decided one way they wanted to show it was through telling maeve's story)
Cami was dying from a heart issue so she had rebekah turn her so when she died she could be with the family, cami completed her transition before freya gave the final blow and cami's last words were "thank you"
Klaus was angry but ultimately it wasn't up to him and he was forced to accept it - one of cami's dying wishes for him
also some headcannons of what comes after:
‣ hope becomes the tribrid and lizzie becomes a heretic when dealing with the hollow (just wasn't mentioned in the story because they didnt want it to be)
‣ elijah becomes ace's number 1 guardian after cami's death, klaus spirals for some time but it is hayley who gets him out of it
‣ keelin visits occasionally and eventually becomes known as the supernatural doctor
‣ every year on the anniversary new orleans throws a grand party celebrating the goddess of death but on maeve's birthday every year the mikaelson's do something human like going to an amusement park, going kayaking or hiking etc to honor her
‣ klaus helped to spread the legend of the goddess of death
‣ cami did not want hope and ace to finish the story, she intended to be done as they grew up but obvi thats not what happened
‣ cami, maeve and finn are together in the afterlife
‣ after freya dies of old age, rebekah decides to take the cure
‣ davina and kol die on the same die bc they didnt want to live without each other
‣ bonnie and enzo eventually have traveled to every UN recognized country in the world
‣ hope is able to conceive and eventually does so with a sperm donor
‣ josie and hope fall in love and so do lizzie and ace
‣ the main mikaelson's in this story all eventually do choose to die but hope and ace carry their legacy on
