- Blind Date -

I woke up because of the sound of my alarm. Inabot ko ang phone kong nasa bedside table to turn it off. Natitig ako saglit sa ceiling saka bumangon. I checked my phone for unread messages which sana ay hindi ko nalang ginawa.

Gising na gising na ang diwa ko tuloy. I don't have the energy to go out but because of Madie's set up, I have to. Nakakahiya na tuloy na hindi sumipot knowing that her cousin's already in the place.

Padabog akong naglakad papunta sa washroom para mahilamos at magskincare. Sinuot ko nalang ang white sneakers ko after ko magpalit ng damit. Nakauniform ako para just in case they call me to be on duty, I don't have to rush home to get myself change.

I sighed out of relief that the date was a fail.

I went to the hospital for my duty. Nag-rounds lang ako kasama ang intern and after no'n. I was called for a surgery again.

Money's raining on me yet tiredness killing me at the same time.

The surgery went successful. Nagpunta ako sa waiting room after to have a serious talk with the patient's guardian about the surgery and the patient's recovery. I also told them that the patient will be transferred from OR to the recovery room.

After that, I walk myself papunta sa ward 5 where my chikadora nurses is and we bitch together about that colleague we hated the most. It took me almost hour with them when I realized about my patient.

I went back to the recovery room to check my patient's vitals and do computer charting.

After that, I observed my patient again for the next hours, trying to convince myself that he is stable na.

I went out of the recovery room which I regretted because one of the residents told me that theres a patient in the ER who needed an urgent surgery and that's how I killed myself again. Of course I have no choice but to do it.

Yes po, hindi po ako nagtatrabaho. Nakikipagpatayan lang po.

The cycle never nasira and ilang araw akong halos walang tulog because of that.

Pinuntahan ko ang Radiologist namin hindi dahil sa trabaho kung hindi para mag-rant bakit ganito ginusto kong trabaho. I'm so fucking tired but at the same time it pleases me knowing that I saved another life again.

Almost sa hospital na ako tumira. Buti nga naalala ko pa minsan umuwi sa condo.

Nakabihis na ako ng damit ko pambahay, bitbit ko ang twalya sa balikat ko at bag sa kabila. Nakaipit ang buhok ko into a messy bun. Sabog akong naglalakad palabas ng hospital.

Inirapan ko lang siya. I don't have the energy to talk to somebody. I walked past him and as soon as nakalabas ako ng hospital, nagtama ang mainit na sinag ng araw sa balat ko. It feels so great. Napaunat pa ako.

Binati ko si Kuya Ryan, our hospital guard, nang magtama ang tingin namin.

"Uwi ka na, Doc?"

"Hindi kuya, magbibihis lang po for sure I'll be called for surgery na naman niyan Kuya."

Natawa si Kuya Guard. "Suki."

Nginitian ko si Kuya saka nagumpisang maglakad, papunta ako sa kotse ko na nakapark lang din dito sa gilid ng hospital.

"Doc! Doctora!" Habol na tawag sa akin ni Kuya Ryan, padrive na ako paalis nang harangin niya ako sa daan.

I hit the brake agad, kinabahan ako ng sobra. Akala ko masasagasahan ko siya, jusko.

Ibinaba ko ang car window nang lumapit siya sa driver's side.

"Sorry Doc. E nakalimutan ko ito..." Inabot niya sa akin ang isang kahon at boquet ng bulaklak na paborito ko.

Nagaalangan ko itong tinaggap.

"May nagpapabigay po." Natatawang sabi ni Kuya. Halatang kinikilig.

"Next time po, Kuya if ever po na may magpapabigay po muli nito, pakisabi nalang po hindi po ako tunatanggap kasi may boyfriend na po ako."

Bakas ang gulat sa mukha ni Kuya na malaman na hindi na ako single. Tumango naman siya matapos.

Pagkapark ko ng car sa harap ng Zaile X de Palace, binuksan ko ang box upang tignan kung ano ang laman nito.

Bumungad sa akin ang isang jewelry box at limang love letters doon. I looked for clues kung kanino ito galing pero wala akong nakita ni isa and that was when I decided to open one of the letters, hoping that I would give me an idea sino nagbigay nito.

Nang buksan ang isa sa mga love letter, halos maluha ako nang mamukhahan ang handwriting na meron sa sulat.
