Adelaide
It was warm spring time outside. I sat next to Ella chatting up about a boy she likes. Ethan. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. She's going crazy for him. But I was barely listening. I was catching the eye of her dad in the mirror.
I was fantasizing about him in the mirror. Touching me, fucking me hard. I bite on my bottom lips. Then, I caught myself. He was smirking back at me in the mirror.
Ella nudged me in the shoulder bringing my attention back. "You know he has a friend. I'm totally going to put you on. We can go on a double date,"
"Okay." I replied, agreeing. She was so excited I couldn't tell her no. Not that I didn't want to. I needed to stay away from Ella's dad. It's just attraction. He's forbidden so it just makes you want him more. I told myself. Maybe this will be a great distraction.
Before I could think about it more, he hit the break on the car thrashing us forward. "Sorry," he apologized. Then started driving again. His eyes met mine and I knew. I saw it in his green eyes. He's fucking jealous and god if it doesn't make me feel exciting.
I peeled my eyes away from him. Ella was completely oblivious. She continued to talk about possible date ideas while I avoid eye contact with her dad.
We reached the school. It said Knight's university in front of the building. Ella piled out behind me. She took my hand and we both ran towards the entrance. She was so excited. I was less excited.
We walked in and there was a crowd of people facing towards the stage. Ella turned and looked at me. She was glowing.
"This is the beginning of the rest of our lives," she exclaimed. Yes it is. I put on a fake bright smile. She didn't seem to notice it. She was too excited.
"Here we go," I replied. She took my hand and we walked to the back of the stage. Where we saw our friends. Maddie, Q and Ethan. Ethan wrapped his arms around her and spins her around. They have their own conversation and I stand next to Maddie and Q.
"Are they dating?" Maddie whispers between the three of us. Even though I doubt Ella is listening to anything we are saying.
"I think. I'm actually not sure," I lied. I knew exactly what was going on but Ella didn't want anyone to know yet. They were casual dating.
The announcement starts a few minutes later and everyone was lining up. Ella and were a few spaces away from each other since they went by first names and not last. Ella was basically jumping up and down. I was nervous. This was the first day of the rest of my life and I had no idea what I was going to do yet.
Like Ella sensed it she looked back and grabbed my hand like she was trying to comfort me. I gave her smile to tell her I was fine. I was ready for this. I have been waiting for this moment for a long time.
They called our names one by one until everyone got their diplomas. When it was my turn I walked up the stage waving at my mother who was all the way in the back. She was waving back at me proudly. Then I met his eyes. It was like an electric shot to my body. Adelaide look away. I told myself. I felt as if everyone could feel the pressure in the air.
I turned away and walked off the stage sitting in my seat. Before long the graduation was over. It went by so quickly I was completely surprised. Ella found me outside and ran into my arms taking me off guard. "We are college graduates. How do you feel?"
"Amazing!", I exclaimed hoping it didn't sound fake. She let me go as Ethan runs to her and kisses her.
"Ella, Adelaide" a male voice came from behind us. I turned to find Ella's parents behind me. Carter and Adriana and my mom.
"Congratulations, Adelaide," he congrats me.
"Thank you," I replied nervously.
"Yeah, congratulations Adelaide," Adriana says in a cold tone.
"Thank you," I replied.
"I'm so proud of you sweetie," my mother praises hugging me tightly.
Ella's parents attention moves from me to Ella and her new boy toy. But I still felt his eyes on me. "Who's your boyfriend" Adriana questioned.
Ethan holds his hand out to Mr Gilmore. But Mr Gilmore just eyes it and meet his eyes. Ethan moves his hands to his side. I could tell it made him more nervous. Why is he being like this?
"I'm Ethan Affleck. I'm dating your daughter." He states with a smile. He's trying to be nice to him. But Mr Gilmore isn't having it.
"Do you want to go out to eat?" He asked turning towards Ella and me completely ignoring him.
"Only if Ethan and his friend come with us," I stated firmly. His jaw ticked. Jealousy. Jealousy.
"Fine," he finally said giving up. He turned to Ethan and asked. "Would you and your friend like to come to dinner with us?".
Ethan nodded pulling out his phone to ask where his friend was. He lifted his hand in the air waving at someone
Then he was walking towards us. This man was a complete god. He had blonde curly hair and his button up shirt had the first few unbuttoned and was tucked into his dressy pants. He walked up to us with his hands in his pockets.
"Hello, I'm Asher," he said towards me. He held his hand out and I shook it. I was star struck and making a complete fool out of myself.
"I'm Adelaide." I said introducing myself. He kissed the palm of my hand.
"Nice to meet you Adelaide," he said his voice sounding like was trying to seduce me. "I actually seen you around I always wondered about you,"
A cough disturbed me before I could reply. It was Ella's dad. I eyed him. We started walking towards the car. We were talking, getting to know each other.
"You should ride with me. I brought my car," he said point to his car on the far side of the parking lot,"
"No" Mr Gilmore snapped. I eyed him again.
"I'm sorry but you don't tell me what to do Mr Gilmore," I stated. I took his hand and he lead me to his car. I looked back at my mother. She smiled at me.
At least I had one person approval. I'm glad she doesn't see the tension between us.
