Sylvia and Miguel walked into the address Johnny gave them. Sylvia learned his name was Johnny Lawrence. She opened the door and a bell rang. Sylvia slowly walks in with Miguel behind her. Miguel was about to walk onto the mat but Sylvia pulled him back "Miguel. take your shoes off first" Sylvia says. When Sylvia was younger she used to do karate but it only lasted a few months. It was those months her dad was still there and they still had money.

Sylvia and Miguel took their shoes off and walked onto the mat in front of Johnny. It was awkward for Miguel and Sylvia. Considering Johnny was just standing there not saying anything "So are we gonna get the karate pajamas too?" Miguel asks, breaking the silence.

"Quiet!" Johnny yelled out making both teens flinch. Miguel gulped down an okay. As Sylvia muttered a string of curse words. "The students only speak when spoken to. Is that understood?" Johnny says. "Yes." Miguel nods. Johnny tilted his head and gave the two a look. "Yes sir?" Miguel tries. "yes sensei" Sylvia says. Johnny pointed to Sylvia in approval. "You will always address to me as sensei is that understood?" Sensei told Miguel. "Oh, yes sensei."

"These aren't pajamas. This is a gi. And you'll get one when you've earned it." Sensei says. Miguel and Sylvia nod "Alright are you ready to begin your training?" Sensei asks them. "Yeah sensei" Sylvia and Miguel say. Sensei then suddenly grabs Miguel. "What the-" Miguel grunts. Sensei threw him to the floor. Sylvia's eyes widened as she watched Miguel lay on the floor. "Oh my god" he moans.

"Lesson one, strike first. Never wait for the enemy to attack." sensei says. Sylvia went over and helped Miguel up. "Well you could have gave me, like, a warning or something" Miguel groans, grasping his stomach as Sylvia helps him stand. "Quiet!" sensei yells.

"We do not train to be merciful here." Sensei says. "Mercy is for the weak" while sensei circles around us, Miguel took out an inhaler and started taking some breaths. "Here on the street, in competition, a man confronts you he is the enemy, an enemy deserves no mercy. What is the problem, Mr. Diaz?" Sensei asks

"There's no problem sensei, you punched me, I have asthma, so" Miguel started but then sensei grabbed his inhaler from his hand and threw it against the wall. "Oh... shit" Sylvia mutters. "Not anymore" sensei says. "We do not allow weakness in this dojo. So you can leave your asthma and your peanut allergies and all that other made-up bullshit outside. Understood?" Sensei says. "Sensei those are real medical problems." Sylvia started saying but sensei gave her a look. "Yes, Sensei, we understand" she immediately backs down.

"Cobra Kai isn't just about karate. It's about a way of life" sensei says, pointing to the painted words on the wall. "Strike first, strike hard, no mercy"

Sylvia and Miguel looked at it confused. "Take that first lesson, striking first is the initial step towards victory. Ok? Like when you're at a party and you see a hot babe." Sensei says "yeah" Miguel nodded. Sylvia furrowed her eyebrows and gave sensei a look. "You don't wait for another guy to talk to her first, do you?" Sensei asks Miguel.

"I mean, I've never been to a party, so"

"Big surprise. All right, look. Striking first is about being aggressive, all right? If you're not aggressive and you're being a pussy, and you don't wanna be a pussy. You wanna have balls." Sensei said. Sylvia fake gagged quietly. "Don't you think you're doing a lot of genderizing?" Sylvia asks. "What?" Sensei asks back.

"Sorry, don't you think you're doing a lot of genderizing, sensei?" Miguel corrects. "No, what the hell are you talking about?" Sensei asks again. "Oh uh my guidance counselor said that certain words perpetuate the sexist world view that can trigger-" Miguel started to say. "Quite!" sensei yells as the two both flinched back.
