Camie immediately recognized this voice. She had heard it on TV so much that there was no doubt possible. She would have recognized it even in the middle of a crowd and forgetting to run away, she turned back towards the sound as if hypnotized. As she turned around, Camie immediately spotted her. How could she not when all eyes were converging towards her no matter where she was? Just like her powers, Black Gold was absorbing people's attention.
Every time she saw her, Camie remembered one very specific physics class she had:
"When you see a black object "shine", you are seeing the reflected light"
But here Black Gold was shining from inside. Her whole body was covered by a shining black uniforme. The tissue around her breasts was held in place thanks to a huge necklace and shoulder armors of the same color. The necklace stopped under her breasts and covered one third of her torso. Under the necklace numerous big belts could be spotted and immediately under motion facilitating pants. The uniform worn by her only looked black because of the dark smoke elevating from her skin and swirling around her body. The uniforme was originally very colorful but all of it got absorbed the second she used her powers.
"Black Gold..."
Camie was flabbergasted. She always admired Black Gold but it was nothing compared to seeing her in real life. She felt like a fangirl for a second and wanted to run up to her to ask for an autograph. Fortunately she soon remembered that they were fighting and she stayed put. She should have ran away but Camie just hid there and stared at Black Gold while she was fighting off her attackers. How could fighting look so easy when she was doing it? Camie even thought for a second that she could manage too. Of course she couldn't. Fighting was only easy when you looked at Black Gold. She wasn't the strongest hero ever seen for nothing after all.
Black Gold was so strong that the villain attacks never lasted more than a few minutes and there were rarely any victimes. This was never heard of. Moreover, Black Gold always showed up very quickly to the sight of the attack which was impressive. Some people even speculated that she was the big villain behind all the attacks because otherwise how would she be so quick? But if Camie's visions were true, those speculations were completely wrong. Black Gold was just a student among so many others and she was just very lucky or unlucky because she was always right where the attacks would happen, or very close.
By the time Camie arrived, the fight was almost over. There were only two attackers left on their feet and they wouldn't hold out for much longer. Just as she was screaming orders to Phoenix, Black Gold was holding down one of the villains by the throat. The latter was struggling under her hold and seeing him squirm under her body, Camie tilted her head:
"Why is he so anxious? I would let her choke me."
Camie's fantasies got quickly interrupted by an explosion and she had to protect her face from the heat. The battle was already won and Black Gold got up before walking away. Phoenix, her partner ignored her too and walked the other way. Phoenix was the second strongest hero after Black Gold. He was wearing a red suit that reminded people of a bird just like his name and he could control fire. Black Gold was forced to work with Phoenix despite being the strongest. At least if Camie's vision's were true. According to them, the two heroes hated each other but were forced to work together. Black Gold did need help sometimes and that was complexing her a lot. Camie had only seen the future so she didn't know why they hated each other so much and could only speculate.
Maybe something had happened 8 years prior when they met or maybe it was just because of their very different personalities. Black Gold was serious and calm while Phoenix was all for shows and cameras. If only they knew who they were under the masks...
But Camie didn't have time to think about the visions. She quickly followed Black Gold, curious about who she really was. As she was running after her, Camie's heart couldn't stop beating out of her chest. Was the vision true? Was this really Amaltheia Malum? She was so anxious that she didn't even notice the body on the ground and walked on a villain's arm. When she heard the ground grunt, Camie froze:
"I'm so sorry!"
She quickly strode over the person and continued running:
"Have a nice day!"
She was scared that those few seconds had cost her knowing the truth and she didn't remember which way Black Gold went. Camie started running around randomly and she started feeling disappointed. She wouldn't know who was behind the mask today. But just as she was thinking this, she suddenly froze and quickly backed away to hide behind a wall. In a dark alley, she spotted the now white uniforme. Black Gold's powers had completely disappeared and she seemed ready to take her mask off.
She must have heard Camie however because Black Gold suddenly stopped and looked around, making sure she was alone. Camie held back her breath and did her best to become one with the air. She got extremely lucky because at the same time a cat ran by and Black Gold seemed to think that this was the noise she had heard. The next second Black Gold took off her mask and let out a long sight. Camie couldn't see her face yet because she was turning her back to her and Camie had to force herself to stay in place. She couldn't make a sound. She had to be one with the wind. Think like the wind. Be the wind.
Black Gold just stood there for long seconds before passing a hand in her hair. And just when she thought that she would never see her, Black Gold turned around. Seeing her face, Camie's breathing froze. The woman under the mask had a lot of very long and curly black hair. Her eyebrows were the same black color and her skin was dark. She had shining almond eyes that reeked of determination. Her jaw was sharp and her head held high. Her cheeks did seem a bit pink and came to underline the color of her lips.
Camie couldn't look away, hypnotized. The vision was real. She had seen the future. This woman was none other than Amaltheia. She did seem a lot more confident than in everyday life but it was definitely her. Camie should have known. Even when she wasn't using her powers, she was glowing.
Camie was so surprised that she froze. She knew who was behind the strongest hero's mask. She knew who was Black Gold. She knew the biggest secret of the whole world. She knew what people had spent years speculating about. Black Gold, holder of the collapsar. Her powers were something never seen before. Before her, no one had ever heard about the power of the black hole. Just like the latter she could stabilize the Galaxy and create everything present but she could as well absorb and destroy everything on her path.
This was the strongest power known and also the greatest responsibility. And all of this was falling on the shoulders of a 22 year old person? For years people had talked about catching Black Gold and prohibiting her from using her powers because it was way too dangerous if she turned to the wrong side. But when Omen appeared, they had to admit that they needed Black Gold and they preferred to give her all the space she needed. Despite that, Black Gold was still supervised and hated by a lot which had angered Camie even before. How could people be so ungrateful? After everything Black Gold was doing for them, they couldn't stop criticizing her about every little thing. Some people even criticized her uniforme! Who cared what she was wearing while she was saving our asses from death?
And this was nothing, things were getting worse and worse. According to Camie's vision, if it was true, everyone would turn their backs on Amaltheia. Every time she made a mistake, people wouldn't miss her. Be it as Black Gold or Amaltheia. Even her best friend, Lula, would turn her back to Amaltheia before admitting her mistakes and being forgiven.
And the person who had all this pressure on her shoulder was none other than Amaltheia? She was the same age as Camie. How could such a young human have to protect everyone every second of the day? Because of all the pictures she had seen, Camie couldn't help being attached to Amaltheia. What she didn't notice because of the vision, however, was that the Amaltheia was gone. Camie didn't know when but Amaltheia had left while she was thinking.
