"Camie... I won't talk about it again if it makes you uncomfortable. I didn't mean to tease you. But I don't see any reason for you to be ashamed."
Camie finally came out from behind her hands.
"I am not ashamed..."
Théa waited patiently for Camie to go on.
"I really like that shirt. I just don't want you to find me weird."
Hearing Théa laugh made Camie's head jerk up.
"Why are you laughing?"
Théa immediately hid her mouth, shaking her head vigorously:
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to laugh! It won't happen ever again. I promised that I wouldn't make you uncomfortable but I couldn't help teasing you. I am sorry. I loved seeing your reactions when I would compliment you. You were just so adorable that I couldn't hold back."
Camie immediately looked away:
"You always say that...
-Say what?
-That... That... That I'm a-a-a-adorable."
Camie's voice was shaking so bad that she thought she would die. She started staring at the door. It had been a long time since she last ran away from Théa. Camie didn't realize how comfortable she was around her now.
"If it makes you uncomfortable, then I will stop. As I told you before, Camie, you are always free to run away."
Just that one sentence calmed Camie down. There was nothing more soothing than knowing you had a way out. Having gotten power back over the situation, she looked back at Théa:
"I don't mind."
Théa opened wide eyes:
"Really?
-Yes.
-Then , may I compliment you freely from now on?"
Camie frowned. Why? Was she holding back until then? She had been complimenting Camie all the time already.
"You can.
-Thank you so much."
Théa looked way too happy for what it was and Camie felt a bit weird.
"You are so nice, Camie. You always make me so happy."
Camie wasn't ready for that and she started coughing:
"I think we should go back to the others now."
Once in front of the door, Camie stopped. She turned back and pinched her lips. Théa didn't say anything and just waited for her to say what she wanted.
Théa was always complimenting her but had Camie ever said something nice to Théa? She always looked so happy from little things. How happy would she be if she complimented her? Camie did think that Théa was an amazing person and she had hundreds of compliments ready already. She just didn't know how to say them. She usually didn't have trouble telling people nice things but for some reason the air seemed different with Théa.
"You..."
Camie started looking everywhere but at Théa.
"You are very cute too."
Not hearing an answer, Camie glanced up at Théa. What she saw next made her intestines twist. Théa was staring at Camie, her eyes wie and her face flushed. That was the last straw and Camie ran away.
Théa didn't follow Camie immediately and she appeared in the living room long seconds after the latter. When she did, she looked back to normal, and even more happy than usual. Camie remembered what she had said and forced herself not to be shy. She said something nice to Théa. She deserved it. She was an amazing person and she never heard enough compliments. Especially now that everyone was criticizing Black Gold, Camie had to give Théa as many compliments as possible.
Camie didn't wait a second and she looked up at Théa:
"You are really thoughtful."
Everyone started staring at Camie, having no idea where that came from. Fortunately, Topiary came in:
"She really is. Thank you so much for buying all this for us to eat. And for inviting us into your house."
Théa smiled:
"It's my pleasure."
Nylora looked at Camie:
"Do you want to talk about what happened or do you want to forget about it and eat your feelings away?"
Camie needed a second to understand what was being said. With her talk with Théa, she had completely forgotten about the incident. She did feel very angry at the moment but now she only felt worried. She glanced at Théa. She was the one who needed help. The whole country was against her and so was her ex best friend. Camie knew that Théa never talked about her problems. Would it help her to do so with them? But she didn't want to push her to talk either...
"What's best?"
Nylora shrugged:
"It depends on the person. If you don't feel like talking then we don't have to. We can do anything you want."
Not getting the answer she was looking for, Camie bit her lower lip. Théa sat down next to Camie and extended ice cream towards her:
"You don't have to decide right now. We can just start by eating and see where it takes us. If you want we can even watch a movie."
Emma grabbed the remote control and started looking at the genres of movies:
"We could watch a terrible romance show and make fun of every decision they make or cry in front of a sad movie that doesn't make any sense. Oh, wait! We could do the first one with a horror movie."
Camie tried remembering what movies Théa liked but she still preferred to ask her directly.
"I like everything."
Hearing that answer made Nylora smirk:
"Little advice, Amaltheia: if your Nebula asks you a question. You should never answer something so vague. That sounds boring."
Théa immediately turned back towards Camie:
"I'm sorry. I didn't want to impose a genre of movie on you because I want tonight to be all about you. I believe if you want to have a good time, we could watch a romance comedy."
Camie had no idea why her friends were laughing and she just nodded. She didn't really care what they were watching and they all sat on the coach and started watching the most bizarre romance story ever. They didn't choose it on purpose and soon they looked at each other with puzzled gazes.
"What the hell is going on? Is that the guy she likes?
-No, that's her boss.
-Doesn't she like her boss?
-Of course not, she still likes her ex.
-No! That's her classmate.
-What? Then who's her ex?
-The guy with red hair.
-No, that's her teacher.
-No!"
They soon gave up on the story and started laughing, trying to guess what would happen next. The most confused one was by far Camie:
"Why would she like that guy? He's a bastard."
Nylora shrugged:
"He has abs.
-What does that have to do with it?
-I don't think she cares about his personality with such abs."
Camie sighed, not getting it:
"Abs are overrated."
Emma laughed:
"If it were a woman you would be drooling."
Théa bent closer to Camie:
"I have abs.
-Congratulations. That must have been a lot of work. You did great."
This made the other girls laugh and Topiary tapped Théa's knee:
"Good luck."
