Camie had a huge smile on her face. That cookie tasted so good that she felt perfectly happy at that moment. She would have loved to eat another one so she just focused on the taste that was still lingering on her tongue.
"Was it good?"
Camie had forgotten that Théa was there and jumped:
"Yes. Thank you so much. I am happy that you didn't like it. And you should thank the nice lady.
-What lady?"
Camie tilted her head with a frown:
"The one who gave you the cookie.
-Oh, yes! That lady... I will make sure to tell her.
-This cookie was the best cookie I ever ate.
-Really? Then if the lady forces me to take one again, could I bring it to you?
-Of course! Maybe you shouldn't tell her that you don't like cookies. She would feel bad and they won't go to waste anyway.
-Okay, I won't."
There was a short silence between them.
"May I ask you a question?"
Camie didn't like that question but she still nodded.
"Why don't you accept gifts? You don't have to answer if it's too personal.
-I just don't.
-I see."
Feeling that she had stayed too long, Camie suddenly jumped up:
"Is your head better?
-Way better. Thank you so much for bringing me here.
-Bye."
Camie didn't give Théa time to answer and rushed out of the building. Théa wasn't even surprised at this point and she let Camie go without a word. On the contrary she was surprised that Camie stayed this long with her. How nice would it be if she stayed even more?
While Théa was fantasizing, Camie came out of the building and immediately found herself in front of her friends. Seeing Camie, they immediately rushed up to her and Emma cupped Camie's face, worried:
"Are you okay?"
Camie was taken aback by this question. Why wouldn't she be okay? She just ate a cookie.
"Did that girl do something to you?"
Camie turned to Nylora with a frown:
"Who?"
Topiary was the one who answered:
"Amaltheia! Did she threaten you?
-What? Why would she?"
Emma finally let go of Camie and took a step back to explain what they were talking about:
"You have been acting very weird lately and you seemed frustrated to see Amaltheia. Is she threatening you? Does she have something on you? Is this what you couldn't tell us about?"
Nylora added, taking Camie's hand into hers gently:
"Are you being stalked by her?"
Camie needed a second to understand what had just been said:
"What?
-You don't have to tell us anything. We don't care what happened.
-We don't even care if you are the one who started it.
-You just have to say one word and we will kill her."
How the hell would they kill Black Gold? Of course Camie wasn't going to say that.
"We won't let her hurt you anymore, Camie. You don't have to be scared.
-We are here for you.
-Wait, wait, wait. You think that Théa is bullying me?
-Isn't she?
-No! She isn't. Not at all. Théa didn't do anything wrong."
Topiary frowned:
"But then why did you look so frustrated seeing her? She appeared around you around the same time when you started acting weird.
-I wasn't frustrated. I was just surprised because I run into her all the time lately.
-Then what's up with your body language? You look ready to flee every second she talks to you.
-That's just me being me. I am socially awkward."
The girls slowly nodded.
"That makes sense...
-So we were wrong about Amaltheia all along?
-Yes."
Emma sighed, her hand in her hair:
"I feel bad now... We were openly rude to her. We should probably apologize. But are you sure you don't mind speaking to her?
-I really don't. She is a very nice person. I just feel... She is too imposing for me to talk to her normally.
-Amaltheia? You find her imposing?
-Yes! She is so tall and muscular and determined and she always looks me straight in the eyes without blinking. I don't know what to do when people look me in the eyes."
And of course the whole superhero part.
"How is she by the way? Is her head better?
-She is fine now. The nurse gave her medicine."
Nylora raised her eyebrows with a smirk:
"And you just left her there?
-Yes. Why?
-Nothing. Maybe we could buy her something sweet to apologize. You don't have to come, Camie if you are uncomfortable.
-No, I want to."
The little group went to the closest supermarket and the three girls all bought something for Théa before walking back to the infirmary. They weren't sure that Théa would still be there when they arrived but when they opened the door, Théa was still sitting on the same chair as when Camie left.
Seeing Camie come in, Théa immediately straightened up:
"Camie? Why did you come back? Did you forget something?"
Camie shook her head before looking at Emma, waiting for her to do the talking. Théa didn't look at Emma until she cleared her throat:
"We came to apologize. We thought that you were bullying Camie so we were rather rude to you. However it has been drawn to our attention that we were mistaken. We are sorry."
The girls gave Théa her gifts one after the other. Théa accepted them with round eyes:
"You thought that I was bullying her? Why?
-It's not important. We were wrong.
-It is important."
Théa stood up with a worried face:
"Did I make you uncomfortable in any way, Camie? I don't want you to feel as if you can't tell me such things. I am sorry about the cookie. I shouldn't have given it to you."
Camie quickly shook her head:
"You don't make me uncomfortable! I really like talking to you."
Théa blushed:
"Really?
-Yes. I just... I don't know what to say.
-That's okay. You could say anything you want. I am just happy to be with you."
Camie frowned. Was Black Gold happy to be around her? Why? Camie felt like asking why would be weird so she just pinched her lips:
"Thanks.
-May I continue talking to you? You are always welcome to run away when you feel like it's getting too much. I don't mind."
Camie nodded:
"Okay."
