"Hi again! We met a lot today."
Camie nodded slowly and Emma took a step towards Théa, forcing her to back off a bit. This made Théa finally notice Camie's friends and she smirked for some reason:
"Hello, I am Théa, Camie's friend.
-Oh are you?
-At least I would love to be."
Théa said this while looking Camie straight in the eyes. The latter felt something weird in those eyes and looked away, playing with her fingers. Why would Black Gold want to be friends with her? Was that why she was seeing Théa so much lately?
"Why would you want to be Camie's friend?"
Camie felt the animosity coming from Emma and seeing her friend be rude to the strongest person on Earth felt a bit dangerous. Therefore Camie tried interposing herself between them two but Théa was quicker:
"She is very interesting. She is impulsive and full of energy. And she is very nice and generous. Just today she gave me an apple, a water bottle, a box of vitamins and a chocolate bar."
This made Emma frown even more:
"You didn't give me anything today."
Nylora and Topiary looked at Camie too:
"Me neither.
-Yeah, me neither."
Camie took a step back, her hands raised in a sign of peace:
"Théa just looked like she needed it... I...
-Hum..."
Her friends didn't seem to like her answer. Théa on the other hand looked perfectly at ease:
"I would really like to thank you for all the attention you paid me. Especially today. If it's okay with you, could I invite you for dinner? Of course your friends are welcome to come too."
Camie opened her mouth to refuse but Nylora was quicker:
"Camie never accepts gifts or services."
This made Théa frown:
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't know about that."
Camie quickly shook her head:
"It's okay, you couldn't know. Then... Have a nice day."
Despite saying goodbye, Camie didn't move and continued staring at Théa.
"Are you okay?"
Théa laughed:
"I am perfectly fine. Thank you so much for looking after me.
Camie pinched her lips in an awkward smile. She had no idea what more to say at this point but felt like she needed to say something. Should she invite Théa to join them? She didn't want to leave her alone. Not when she was a patient.
"We are going to a coffee shop."
Théa's eyes started shining but she waited patiently for Camie to say more. Unfortunately for them, Emma cut in:
"Yes. So we should go before it closes. It was a pleasure meeting you, Amaltheia."
Her friends grabbed Camie and pulled her away. Emma didn't even wait to be far away and said very loudly:
"Why is that girl sticking to you? That's creepy."
Camie immediately turned back to make sure that Théa didn't hear it. The latter was still standing there and waved at Camie with a smile. This relieved Camie and she followed her friends to the coffee place. No one mentioned Théa again and Camie thought that was that. She ate a blueberry pie and finally forgot about Théa for a few seconds. She didn't notice at all her friends' worried looks and didn't notice anything amiss until the next day.
Her friends didn't seem to have a lot of classes that day and they insisted on spending time with Camie. This made the latter happy and she didn't question why they followed her everywhere she went. In the morning they walked Camie to her class and waited for her outside. After that Camie had a break and they decided to go for a walk in the park. They talked about everything and nothing and Camie did her best to pay attention but there was something missing. Camie couldn't put her finger on it but she started looking around them.
"Camie? What are you looking for?"
The latter jumped:
"Nothing! I was listening."
No one believed her but they went on as if nothing and continued talking. Just as they arrived to a crosswalk, Topiary exclaimed:
"I have to go to the toilet!"
It came so suddenly that Camie jumped and looked at her friend with a frown:
"Okay... We could wait for you.
-No. You are coming with me."
She grabbed Camie's arm and the latter didn't dare argue. After her break, Camie went back to class and her friends were once again waiting for her outside. They went to the cafeteria together but as soon as they got into the line, Nylora said:
"Let's eat outside instead."
Emma immediately accepted which was surprising. She didn't like eating out and always ate at the cafeteria because it was cheaper. Thinking that her friend was troubled for some reason, Camie whispered to her discreetly:
"Is everything okay?"
Emma nodded but she didn't have time to say anything when they heard someone call Camie's name from behind. Seeing Théa run up to them made Emma frown and the three friends immediately surrounded Camie with their bodies.
"Hi, Camie. Have you had a good day so far?"
Seeing Théa made Camie realize how worried she had been for her. Now that she was finally seeing her face, Camie could finally relax a bit. She had gotten used to meeting Théa all the time and it had felt weird only meeting her now. Camie completely ignored Théa's question and asked what she really wanted to know:
"How are you?
-Way better now that I see you."
They didn't have time to say more because Emma grabbed Camie's arm suddenly:
"Camie, we have to go. Nylora has a class in a few minutes."
Camie wanted to give something to Théa before they left. Anything. But she didn't have time to look through her bag because Emma started dragging her away. She didn't have time to drag her very far however because they soon heard Théa grunt. Camie immediately turned to her and freed herself from Emma's hold before running up to Théa:
"Are you okay? What's wrong?"
Camie could feel her heart beating faster and faster. Was Théa dying? Was she going to die because of her? Did she get blood poisoning? Was she going to lose her arm? How would she fight without her arm? People would notice that Black Gold and Théa lost their arms at the same time and they would discover Black Gold's real identity. They would bully and abuse Théa and maybe even murder her. If she didn't get killed by them, she would be found by Omen and killed by him. And everything would be because of Camie. Everything is her fault. She killed Théa.
"Shh. It's okay."
What Camie felt next was Théa's hand on her cheek, caressing her gently:
"Breathe. I'm okay."
Having come back to her senses, Camie pushed away Théa's hand:
"We should get you to the infirmary.
-No, it's okay. I'm really fine.
-No."
Camie didn't say more and placed Théa's good hand around her shoulders before helping her to walk to the infirmary. She was way too focused on saving Théa's life therefore she didn't hear Emma scream from behind them:
"Did that bitch just smile at me?"
