As soon as class was over, Camie ran to the football field. She had no idea why Omen couldn't stop attacking their University but what she knew was that the next attack would be during the football match. The latter didn't start yet and the players weren't even here but people were already gathering. Camie thought that she had to cancel the match some way but she didn't know how. Should she announce a false attack? That could work.
Just as she decided, Camie turned around to run to the loudspeaker but that was without counting on her friends.
"Camie? What are you doing here?
-Did you come to watch the match? You don't like football."
Camie frowned:
"What are you guys doing here?"
Topiary rolled her eyes with an amused smile:
"We told you that we would come.
-Did you?
-Yes.
-I'm so sorry. I..."
Nylora grabbed Camie's hands with a worried look:
"What's going on with you lately? Is everything okay?"
Emma nodded:
"You can tell us anything. We really care about you, Camie.
-I know. Thank you. I really appreciate it but I can't say anything. I just... Can't.
-You don't have to say anything. We could just hang out together and have some quality time. What do you think? We could watch the match together."
Camie suddenly remembered why she had come:
"No! We can't watch the match!
-Okay... We could do something else then. What about getting some ice cream?
-Girls. I really need your help."
Her friends immediately grabbed her hands:
"Of course.
-Anything.
-What is it?"
Camie bit her lip but she didn't know what else to do. She needed help.
"We need to cancel this match and get people out of here as soon as possible."
Her friends needed a second to process what she had just said:
"What?
-They..."
Camie felt her lungs compress. Nevermind. She should have remembered that she couldn't talk about it.
"I can't tell you. But it's really important. You have to trust me."
Emma frowned:
"Last time you told me this, you ran head first into a superhero vs villains fight.
-Yeah... That was a bit thoughtless of me. I admit. But this time, it's the other way around.
-How?
-I don't have time to explain. We need to announce a villain attack on the loudspeaker."
Emma seemed ready to ask even more questions but Nylora cut her off:
"Okay. I'm on it."
Just as she said that, Nylora grabbed Emma and dragged her after her:
"Where are you dragging me?
-Are you deaf? We are going to open our own podcast.
-But why me?
-You are keeping watch."
Topiary and Camie got left behind but soon they started running after their friends too. There were a lot of people already and running was becoming harder and harder. Camie didn't slow down however and almost crashed into multiple people (she did but didn't notice). She thought she was doing great when she literally ran into Théa. The latter must have come to watch Firo play and this time Lula wasn't with her. Camie ran into Théa with such speed that she bounced off her and almost fell backwards. However Théa saved her by grabbing her by the waist.
"Are you okay?"
Camie was very close to Théa's face suddenly and she backed her head away to get a bit more space. Théa on the other hand didn't seem to mind at all because she was holding Camie close to her with both arms. Camie felt very awkward for some reason and she looked around to escape Théa's stare. As she turned her head, she saw that her friends had already disappeared in the crowd and that made her straighten up. She quickly pushed Théa away and got back on her feet. Théa let her go immediately but she seemed worried about Camie and didn't let her leave:
"Are you okay? Did something happen?
-Not yet."
Camie seemed very anxious and that worried Théa even more.
"Do you need help? Can I do something for you?
-I... No. I just have to go."
She didn't know how her friends could be so fast but just as she wanted to leave, she heard the loudspeakers emit the familiar high pitched alarm. This made Camie smile but she quickly bit her lower lip when she realized that Théa was staring at her.
"Did you?"
Fortunately Théa didn't finish her question. People around them started panicking and they were running in all directions. Someone pushed Camie and the latter would have fallen if it hadn't been for Théa. She pulled Camie back into her arms and surrounded her head of her hand. She maintained her in place for a few seconds before bending towards her:
"Are you okay?
-Yes.
-We should go get you somewhere safe."
Camie quickly shook her head.
"I'm fine. You can go. I'll find a shelter on my own.
-No. I'm not leaving you alone.
-But..."
Théa needed to go. The announcement was false but she didn't know that. She had to go and find the villains didn't she? Why was she staying with her? And villains would soon attack for real. Théa really had to go.
"I'm not going anywhere until you are safe.
-Don't mind me. Just... Protect yourself."
Camie pushed Théa away before disappearing in the crowd. Very quickly the field got emptied and a few seconds later the real villains appeared. They seemed very surprised by the alarm that had preceded them and just stood there for a few seconds, as if wondering who had betrayed them.
It seemed they immediately agreed on one person and they started fighting that one person instead of attacking the civilians. This gave even more time for people to run away and by the time they focused back on their job, the football field was safe.
Camie didn't go far of course and she hid behind a pillar, her pan in hands. She tried spotting the person who would shoot Black Gold. There was only one person with arrows and Camie tried getting closer to them. They were standing a bit further away from the others and Camie noticed a bench behind them. If she could get to the bench, she would be close enough. But she suddenly froze. What if she got there? What would she do? Everyone had evacuated so no one would be attacked and Black Gold wouldn't get hurt. Wouldn't Camie be the one captured if she got closer? Maybe she should stay where she was.
Therefore Camie didn't move and just watched what was going on. As predicted, Black Gold and Phoenix had a way easier time fighting when there weren't civilians to protect around them. The villains lost their advantage and the heroes quickly gained the upper hand.
