Camie had completely forgotten about Lula by the following day but she quickly got reminded of her existence when she was pushed by someone. She had been pushed so suddenly and with such strength that she collapsed heavily.
"Aouch."
She felt her arm get scratched and when she looked at it she saw blood flowing. It was nothing serious but it still hurt.
"Oh, my. I didn't see you there."
Camie recognized the voice and looked up to a smirking Lula:
"You should pay more attention when you are walking. It would be bad if you got hurt."
Camie frowned:
"And you should stop pushing people."
Lula raised her hand to her mouth, pretending to be shocked:
"Me? How could you say that?
-Drop the act, Lula. I don't have the energy to pretend. Push me once again and I'm going to push you so hard that even your ancestors will feel it."
Lula laughed:
"Am I supposed to be scared?"
Camie shrugged:
"Scared is a big word. I just wanted you to know. So you can't blame me later on.
-How much longer do you plan on sitting on the ground?"
Both Camie and Lula looked at the newcomer. Ember didn't waste a second and grabbed Camie's hands before pulling her up:
"Is it that comfortable on the ground?"
She didn't give Camie time to answer and glared at Lula:
"Don't you have somewhere else to be? Like in the bathroom? I don't want to make you uncomfortable but you have something between your teeth."
Lula immediately lost her smile and she did her best to hide her teeth.
"I have to go..."
Ember shook her head as she watched Lula run away:
"It's so easy to make people uncomfortable. It's almost disappointing."
Ember suddenly felt Camie staring at her and she turned back with a frown:
"What? Do I have something on my face?
-No. But... What just happened?
-I helped you up. That deserves a thank you where I'm from.
-Right, thank you. But why?
-Do you always ask so many questions when someone helps you?
-Only when it's you."
Ember rolled her eyes:
"You were sitting in the middle of the road. What did you want me to do? Step on you? Excuse me for not doing so. If you want you can sit back so we can remedy that."
Camie started laughing:
"Okay, I get it. You don't have to be so shy about being nice."
Ember flinched:
"I wasn't being nice! I told you, you were in the middle of the road.
-Okay, okay. Let's say that's the case.
-It was!
-I told you okay."
But Camie couldn't stop smiling and Ember soon got frustrated:
"You are childish. See you never."
And just like that she left. Camie couldn't hold back her laughter anymore. She had no idea what had happened but it wasn't important. Was Ember finally changing for the better just like in the visions? It was sooner than expected but that was for the best. Camie wouldn't have been able to take mean Ember much longer.
But what changed her? Had she talked to Théa while Camie wasn't with her? Or was it what Camie had told her? Maybe, but it wasn't sure. Camie didn't think that her getting mad at Ember would be enough to wake her up. At least it wouldn't be enough for her.
In all cases, this nice surprise put Camie in a really good mood and she completely forgot about Lula for the rest of the day. At noon she met the girls in front of the cafeteria and she noticed that Théa didn't bring Lula with her. This relieved her and Camie came up to her friends with a smile:
"Sorry, have you waited long?"
Théa quickly shook her head:
"Not at all. Have you had a good day so far?"
Camie nodded and they got into line. They arrived early and were lucky to have avoided rush hour. Therefore they sat down and started eating only five minutes later. Camie felt really thirsty and she grabbed the pitcher before asking:
"Does anyone want water?"
Topiary nodded and Camie served her water. But just as she was doing so, Emma frowned:
"What happened to your arm?"
Camie looked at her arm, having forgotten that she scratched it.
"Oh, that's nothing."
Topiary laughed:
"Did you fall again?
-Yes, but it wasn't my fault this time!
-How come?"
Camie opened her mouth but suddenly remembered that Théa was there and closed it again. Should she talk about this in front of Théa? Lula did push Camie on purpose. She shouldn't get away with it. But who would Théa believe? Lula or Camie?
Camie shook her head. She shouldn't care about this. She should be honest and who cared how Théa reacted?
"I got pushed."
Théa's fork fell to the ground while Emma almost jumped up:
"What?"
Everyone turned to their table and Camie forced Emma to sit back down:
"It's okay. Ember helped me."
Nylora almost choked on her water:
"Ember? Didn't she threaten you just a few days ago?
-Yes but today she helped me with... The other situation. So we are good now."
Emma rubbed her forehead:
"Camie... You can't just forget about her threatening you that easily."
Camie shrugged:
"But she didn't do anything in the end. And she even wished me a good day.
-Who cares? You shouldn't talk to her. She isn't worth your time. And if her or..."
Emma glanced at Théa:
"Or the other one bully you again, call me and I'm going to strangle them.
-They won't bully me. I can take care of it.
-No. You are calling me."
Camie laughed. Théa on the other hand wasn't amused at all. Camie didn't notice but her eyes turned dangerously cold and she started chewing on her food fiercely.
