Now that Théa was liked by Camie's friends and she got Camie's agreement to talk to her, Théa would take even more space in Camie's life. Slowly they started hanging out together and Camie's friends would invite Théa to join them to where they were going when they crossed paths.
This was what happened on their way to the library when Nylora spotted Théa further away:
"Camie, your friend is there."
Camie immediately knew who she was talking about and she looked where Nylora was pointing. Théa was standing there with Lula, her best friend, and Camie realized that it was one of the first times she saw Lula. She had spotted her a few times but at that point she had completely forgotten about her. But seeing her, Camie immediately remembered the visions and how Lula would betray Théa the same way as everyone else when Ember would accuse her of copying her design. Apart from that Lula had been an amazing friend to Théa but Camie couldn't forget about it. She hated Lula so much that she couldn't help making a funny face.
Seeing her like that made Emma frown:
"Did you two have a fight?
-What? No. I was just thinking of something else.
-Then do you want us to call her?
-Yes."
Nylora immediately screamed:
"Amaltheia!"
Théa didn't seem to hear her so Nylora screamed again:
"Camie is here!"
Théa immediately turned around and started looking around her anxiously. When she spotted the girls, she immediately ran up to them, Lula following her from up close.
"Camie!"
Théa suddenly remembered about Camie's friends and greeted them with a smile.
"Where are you guys going?
-We are headed to the library to study a bit. Do you guys want to join us?
-We would love to!"
Théa suddenly turned to Lula:
"Sorry, this is my best friend, Lula. Lula, this is Camie and these are her friends, Emma, Nylora and Topiary."
Lula flashed a bright smile:
"Nice to meet you. I am so happy that I finally met Camie. I have heard so much about you. Théa wouldn't shut up about you."
This made Camie blush. Did Théa talk about her that much?
"You too. Théa has told me a lot of good things about you."
She was lying but she learned that this was the polite thing to say. Lula didn't seem to pick up on the lie however and she pushed Théa with a smirk:
"I'm sure she has. We have been best friends for 9 years. I don't know what she would do without me at this point."
Camie forced herself to laugh.
"9 years, that's a lot.
-It is, isn't it? I can't even remember my life before meeting her."
Camie didn't want to talk to Lula and she didn't feel comfortable with her energy. Why should she force herself to talk to her if she didn't want to? She started slowly backing away but the next second Théa cut her friend off to ask:
"Camie, may I ask you for a chewing-gum?"
Camie slowly nodded before handing it to Théa.
"Thank you so much. Here, please accept this in exchange."
Camie looked at the caramel with shining eyes.
"Amaltheia, Camie doesn't accept gifts."
But Emma didn't even have time to finish her sentence that Camie already swallowed the caramel. Time suddenly froze and her friends stared at her in disbelief. They wanted to make a big deal out of it but they knew it would make Camie uncomfortable. Therefore they did their best to move on.
"Should we go?"
As they started walking, Lula immediately approached Camie:
"What are you studying?
-Biologie.
-Nice! I am in media.
-I know."
Lula laughed:
"Has Théa talked about me that much? I am quite honored. What do you guys usually talk about? She doesn't talk a lot so I was very surprised when she started talking to me about you."
Camie really didn't care about what was being said and just nodded.
"I have never heard Théa talk so much in my entire life. She must really care about you.
-Hum.
-Ever since she met you, she has been acting completely different.
-Really?
-Totally! I can't recognize her anymore. We used to hang out together all the time but now she is always with you or talking about you.
-I see.
-Do you care about her?
-Yes.
-How much?
-Why are you asking?
-Because I am curious.
-I don't know.
-But if you had to guess."
Camie was bad at guessing. She only knew that she liked someone when she didn't see them for a few days. She knew that she cared about Théa because she had seen months of her life in her visions and got attached. But she didn't know how much she cared and she couldn't guess. She was touched that Théa wanted to become friends with her and she did want to talk to her but she still felt rather uncomfortable.
Speaking of Théa, she had been following the girls from up close and suddenly tapped Lula's shoulder:
"Lula, I think Emma and you have a lot of things to talk about. She is in communication."
Lula rolled her eyes with a smirk:
"I understand. You want to get some alone time with Camie. Who am I to get between you two?"
She laughed before walking away and Camie finally relaxed. However the next second, Théa bent towards Camie's ear:
"Do you dislike Lula?"
Camie immediately jumped:
"What? No! Why would I hate her?"
Lula was Théa's bestfriend. She couldn't say anything bad about her. But shouldn't she warn Théa about Lula? What if she could save her from the betrayal? But in the visions, Théa never got mad at Lula and she didn't get hurt when she didn't believe her. Camie didn't understand how that was possible but maybe it was for the best not to say anything. Maybe Camie could prevent Ember from copying Théa's work in the first place.
That way Théa won't get hurt and she won't lose a friend. They had known each other for 9 years after all. Théa must have really cared about Lula. And Lula hasn't done anything bad yet. Could Camie really hate her for something she would maybe do? Camie felt like the answer was yes and she didn't like her no matter if she did betray Théa or not. Just knowing the possibility was enough for Camie but other people might not feel the same.
She had to hide her true feelings about the young woman and she couldn't let anyone find out what she really thought.
"She is very nice. I can feel that you two are very close.
-Do you mind that she came?
-Not at all."
Théa frowned for some reason but she didn't insist anymore. Did she believe her? Camie hoped she did.
"By the way, I saw the lady again today."
Théa took a cookie out of her pocket and handed it to Camie. The latter accepted it happily:
"Thank you!"
