The Alpha was listed on my phone, so I linked him into the call.
When he answered, I explained the situation and Jesse explained his intelligence.
“We recently captured a shifter. Officer Louis was laughing maniacally in her cell so when we asked why, she reported the Lycans were all going to die. Shifters are infiltrating the pack as we speak. Get ready for battle.” He warned.
“Thank you Alpha Jesse. You have acted as a true ally. We will handle it and we look forward to meeting you in a few days.” The Alpha spoke to Jesse and then to me, “Luna Rebecca, please stay inside. I am sending guards there now. This is no doubt a retaliation for infiltrating the warehouse.” He explained.
He hung up closing the conference call entirely. I called Finn.
“Yes? Do you need something?” Finn asked
“Shifters have invaded the pack lands. We are under attack.” I warned.
“On my way home.” He promised and he hung up.
Jesse called back.
“Where are you? Are you safe?” He asked, panic in his voice.
“I am at Finn’s house. I was about to take a nap. Guards are on the way, and Finn is headed home. How dangerous are shifters?” I asked.
“They can shift into any living, natural thing. We suspect those are the spies we can’t seem to find. They could even be posing as wild life. Silver makes them take their true form. They have some healing power, some strength and speed, but their strongest asset is stealth.” Jesse explained.
Finn came in the door and locked it behind him as a strange siren went off that sounded like an old fashioned police whistle, lots of them.
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“There was an all call via mind link declaring the type of enemy to expect: Shifters. The siren means battle stations. That combination means they will fight shifted, to tell the difference between friends and foes. Lycan are not natural, and shifters cannot mimic our shifted selves.” Finn explained. “We are quite efficient. The battle will be over soon.”
I looked out the window and saw my first shifted Lycan. They are humanoid with almost a monster wolf face. They sprout hair sparsely along their bodies. Secondary sexual characteristics remain when they shift, but their bodies are similar enough that stretchy outerwear allows them to shift without shredding their clothes. They maintain their intelligent eyes and facial features despite the addition of a snout, and gain sharp claws, pointed teeth, incredible strength and size. They are less beautiful than wolves, but far more deadly.
As if that were not enough, they also were armed with bullet proof vests and machine guns.
In about thirty minutes, a second alarm went off. We were sitting in the living room waiting.
“What does that mean?” I asked.
“The mind link prior said, all known threats within the boarders are dead. Be on the look out for hidden stragglers, that means any shifters posing as animals, and go to the boarders to hold them until the all clear command. The alarm means move.” Finn explained.
“I would love to learn from your military expertise. We are not as disciplined and will need to be against the resistance we now face. Rather than recreate the wheel, I would rather implement a system that we know works.” I stated.
“That may be able to be arranged. Since you are sending a good faith ambassador, we could negotiate to send a good faith squadron to train your troops.” Finn suggested.
