The next day I listened to Tony’s intelligence and took notes of things to warn our allies: The Lycan were about to be attacked by vampires. We needed to find a moving shifter spy camp in the woods. Nova Scotia has a compromised prison system infiltrated by planted spies, and there are confirmed sleeper cells in alliance armies.
I started making phone calls.
I picked up Jesse and we continued doing home visits to each member of the pack who received renovations. More for PR than anything useful, but we needed to have face time with the pack for them to feel seen and important.
We finished three visitations, before Jesse asked to go to the prison to meet Tony. We agreed to talk privately away from his men, so we brought him into the Hall of Death and set guards at the door.
“From what I have heard you are an interesting character Tony. I haven’t met you yet. I am Alpha Jesse.” Jesse stood a foot taller than Tony.
“Nice to meet you. I gave all the intel I have to your Sargent.” Tony stated.
“Thanks. Hopefully it pans out as true. What made you turn?” Jesse asked.
“Your Luna. Up until her, I was assigned scumbags and I didn’t much care if they lived or died. They deserved what they got. Then I was told to pick her up and she was resourceful, calculating, and intelligent. I was intrigued.
“Then I talked to her, and she read me like an open book and knew exactly what to say to challenge me to change. I was intrigued further so I traded food for conversation and the more she talked, the more I realized I had really screwed up my life. I had lost my way. I was bringing a bright, shining light into a warehouse to be tortured and killed.
“I couldn’t spring her though. There were too many spies to recapture her that would hurt her, and they would just shoot me. None of the math added to a good ending for either of us, so I did my best to limit her suffering. I even gave her an extra day before bringing her in.
“I decided since I couldn’t spring her, at least I could give her a chance at vengeance against that simpleton George. I talked him into going into her room and stood by in case he got the jump on her. She did as I expected, she beat the Hell out of him and got to tell him off in ways I am sure he is still feeling today.
“When I got orders to pick you both up in Seattle, I was assigned her again. I brought her to the airport and traded semi true, mostly false intel for my life. I would have found you, but they beat me bloody and left me in a cell. I had no idea where they took you. I wasn’t any help.
“The kidnapping of your pups was my last chance so I chose my side. I would rather be in your prison, with your kids safe, and putting my bets on your side. I just hope it is not too late for me. I don’t want to be the man I was anymore. After this war, I want to change.” Tony confessed.
Jesse gave me a look. See? You are incredible and I am not the only one who noticed. I am just glad I caught you first…
“That sounds like something my mate could do. I am grateful for what you were able to do in impossible situations, even though it was your own choices that put you down that road. I believe you can change if you are being sincere. You could also just be saying what you know I want to hear to save your own life. Either way, your stay here is determined by Rebecca. I just wanted to put a name with a face.” Jesse replied.
“Same. I wondered if the man Rebecca loved enough to plead for me to save his life was worthy of her. From what I heard and what I see. I’d say you are. Remember when you start reliving the crap they did to you… they all do… that she doesn’t waste her time on assholes. She calls it like she sees it and she chose you.” Tony warned as he started walking back towards the door. We escorted him back to his cell.
