“It is times like that, I wish I had a wolf instead of a Lycan. Can you imagine if I shifted to play with my kids? It would be akin to shifting into the monster from under the bed…” Lucian explained.

I laughed. “But if they were in trouble. I think I would like to see a roaring, seven foot monster coming to protect me.”

“I wonder if they would take it well if I shifted in front of my kids. In our culture, we expose young adolescents to our Lycan forms to help them accept their form when they are granted their own, but with potential violence coming, I think I should show my kids early so they run towards me not away from me if I have to shift in an emergency.” He explained.

“That’s true. I would explain everything first. Your eyes will be the same. That should help. How much does your Lycan control while you are shifted?” I asked curiously.

“It is different for everyone. My Lycan is pretty well balanced. You would probably like him. When I am shifted, he enhances my physical strength, but only takes over when I cannot continue. I hate being out of control of my body. We have an understanding on that front.” Lucian admitted.

“Interesting. It is similar with wolves. They are all different and the successful pairings work out a relationship with their human and spirit counter parts. Over time Jesse and I became more comfortable with allowing our wolves control, but it was definitely earned. Though I don’t think our wolves have ever even tried to talk to anyone but our mate, though Fang requires justice to calm his need for vengeance. He has spoken to those that have hurt me, but that was just prior to beating within an inch of their life.” I commented thoughtfully.

“If anyone hurt my mate, my Lycan would not be appeased until the threat was eliminated entirely. No hesitation. I would not be allowed even an opinion.” Lucian shrugged. “That’s where we get our reputation for aggressiveness I guess.”

“In our situation, I think that was my wolf’s doing. She hates violence so to make her happy, Fang stops before they are dead. That and Jesse is in agreement. He often has political goals for the altercation and Fang understands the limits he is allowed to work within for his cathartic release. That said, if I were dead, Fang would destroy the entire pack responsible. I guess the damage is equal to the level of violation caused. If I live, they may possibly live. If they hurt me, they will be hurt many times more than what they did to me. Jesse balances out Fang’s vengeance.” I explained conversationally.

“So Jesse’s wolf talks to you? Often?” Lucian was curious.

“Yes. He loves me and I love him. Jesse often teases that his wolf likes me better than him. My wolf is busy protecting our pups, but when she is less distracted she speaks to us all freely.” I elaborated.

“That is interesting. I wonder if Lycan counter parts are more aggressive because we compartmentalize them so much culturally. If we let them interact more, maybe they would be more socialized and balanced. Isolation would explain their brash reactions and impulsive behavior. Huh….” Lucian went off into deep thought.

“That is interesting.” I agreed. “Let me know what you discover as you explore the topic further, because I know you will.” I smiled as we concluded our conversation as we arrived at the facility.

I always enjoy our psychology discussions.

Once through the security check point, I had a meeting to prepare for the vampire video conference where I would review the latest copy of the PR video that a team had created, and I had a meeting after to discuss strategy with a military panel.

The council elections were underway with campaigns running in full swing. I had brief political debates scheduled for Friday dinners for the next two months, and campaign signs could be found all over the pack lands. I was excited to be rebuilding a democracy.
