With the politics settled, the ambassador in place, and all the negotiations complete, the reasons for our stay came to and end. We booked our flight and planned on leaving early the next day. Finn volunteered to drive us to the airport, and he promised to come visit. We thanked him for everything and he blushed and changed the subject as he usually did.
The promised Lycan strike team was sent ahead of us on a nonstop flight. Sargent Davies would be waiting at the airport to receive them.
We took a plane with an overnight layover in Seattle, because we wanted a few hours alone. We booked a hotel room and tried not to get the front desk called on us, but we had no intention of sleeping. We left the hotel snuggled together, bonded, and happy.
Jesse opened the cab door to let me in, and went around to get in, but after a minute he didn't re-emerge. I looked out the window and saw nothing. He was gone.
I got out and yelled for him, but he was just gone.
Where are you? I heard and saw absolutely nothing.
I felt the burn of wolf's bane over our bond and became filled with terror. A car drove off in the distance.
I got in and told the Taxi driver: "Please follow that car." I pointed at it.
"Now there, Rebecca. Be glad they didn't want you this time." My blood turned cold. The taxi driver was Tony.
"I will be taking you to the airport as scheduled and you will go home safe and sound." Tony explained like I didn't have a choice.
"Where are they taking him?" I asked.
"I can't tell you that. Alphas are worth more than Lunas. They won't kill him for a while." Tony stated. "You know, I have been researching your werewolf lore since I saw you last. It is pretty fucked up that the Lunas have to be raped to break their mind link but for men, they just need to be bitten. That is just messed up!" Tony exclaimed.
"Well the men lose more. Their entire pack is transferred to the new leader and sometimes the suffering for large amounts of people is just as severe depending on who bites them." I stated flatly.
"It will be the old green eyed monster this time of course. Do you have free will in pack life or does leadership just pass to the most barbaric son of a bitch able to submit the current Alpha and overthrow him?" Tony asked curiously.
"A wolf of Alpha blood can create their own pack from nothing, just by the loyalty of the ones that surround them. Pack ties are made verbally by Alpha authority given to the human by their wolf. Jesse hardly uses his, but if he wanted, he could force pack members to obey with his voice alone, but he prefers loyalty by choice and devotion by earning respect. Unlike Alpha Alex who ruled by terror." I explained.
Tony continued his questioning, "Can a Luna rule?" He gave me a look in the rear view mirror.
"I am not sure. Probably. I become more powerful with each pack member that shows me loyalty. I see where you are going." I gave Tony a look. "You play a dangerous game."
"Let's just say, I wouldn't mind a less violent type of life. What you said about changing, I hope it is true, because my bets are on you, but if you repeat that I would have to shoot you." He winked.
"Your secret is safe with me. Can you keep an eye on Jesse for me? Spare his life?" It was a desperate attempt, but I had few options.
"If I can, I will, but I am not risking my skin for anyone. That is a big ask." Tony informed me.
"I will take that as a maybe. I will take anything at this point. I love him. He is a good man. Please help him. Anyway you can help him, and I will remember you when our paths cross again if you need my help. I promise." I pleaded.
