A soldier stuck in the war
Wading in the blood
Wanting more
But this flood
Overcame his mind
Wanting to go home
Just to find
That he is next to Rome
He screams
He looks down at his five
As his dreams
Come alive
He struggles to hold his own
The enemy come in a mass
As he goes prone
In the grass
He holds his rifle proud
Wearing his medal
Not hiding under this shroud
Of metal
But displays his courage
Throughout this time
Of pain during this entourage
He stops on a dime
And drops it all
When he sees a comrade
Fall
He thinks of his dad
As he picks up the distraught
Who are no longer needed
To be taught
How to be defeated
Their last comment
To their wife
To be sent
Is that they will meet in the next life
Though they are in pain
They still smile
They still stay sane
Waiting for a while
Waiting to go back
Waiting for silence
To no longer be in attack
To rebuild the fence
To rekindle the flame
To be with his love
No longer playing a game
But like a dove
But coming home alone
As everyone else was deceased
His love shown
And was released
