Rasheem gripped the steering wheel tightly as he drove through the traffic, a sense of anticipation building within him. He glanced over at Jaida, his girlfriend of four years, who was brimming with excitement. She couldn't contain her curiosity any longer. "Babe, you're not gonna tell me where we're going?" she asked, a playful smile tugging at her lips.
"You know I don't spoil my surprises," Rasheem replied, flashing her a mischievous grin and a wink. Unbeknownst to Jaida, tonight's dinner was about to be more than just a regular date night. Rasheem had made up his mind to take their relationship to the next level and propose.
Ever since they were seventeen, Rasheem and Jaida had been inseparable. They had grown up together, sharing both joyful and challenging moments, strengthening their bond. Rasheem couldn't help but feel a surge of love and happiness as he thought about their journey together. The idea of spending the rest of his life with Jaida filled his heart with an indescribable warmth.
He took a deep breath, gathering his courage, and decided it was the right time to share his plans with Jaida. "You know, I talked to your father about us moving in together," Rasheem began, his voice filled with sincerity. Jaida's eyes sparkled with surprise and anticipation, urging him to continue. "He may mention it later, but I wanted him to know that I'm fully committed to taking care of you. My dad's promoting me at the construction company," he explained, reaching over to hold Jaida's hand. As he kissed the back of her hand, a sense of certainty washed over him.
Before Rasheem could finish his sentence, Jaida's voice echoed with urgency. "Sheem, watch out!" she screamed, her tone filled with fear and panic.
In that split second, the screeching sound of tires filled the air, drowning out any further words or thoughts. Rasheem's heart skipped a beat as his instincts kicked in. He slammed on the brakes, desperately trying to avoid the impending collision. But it was too late. The impact sent their car spinning, turning their world into a blur of chaos and confusion.
As the smoke slowly cleared, Jaida found herself hanging upside down, her seatbelt holding her in place. Blood trickled down her forehead, mingling with the shattered glass surrounding her. The distant screams of witnesses pierced through the silence. Her eyes frantically scanned the wreckage, searching for any sign of Rasheem.
Her heart sank as she caught sight of him, motionless and slumped against the wheel. "Rasheem! Sheem!" Jaida cried out, her voice cracking with anguish.
Tears streamed down Jaida's face as she struggled to unbuckle her seatbelt, her trembling hands fumbling in the darkness. With each passing second, her hope faded and a devastating realization took hold. Rasheem, her soulmate, her partner, was gone.
Time seemed to stand still as Jaida clung to the shattered remnants of her dreams. The future that once held so much promise and love now lay in broken fragments before her."AHHH!" Jaida jumped out of her sleep, drenched in sweat, her heart pounding out of her chest. It was 3:34 am, and she could still hear the echoes of her nightmare ringing in her ears. Jaida looked at the picture frame by her bedside, a snapshot of her and Rasheem. She kissed the picture gently, wiping away the tears from her face. The haunting dream had become a recurring occurrence over the past four years, a reminder of the deep loss she had endured. "I have to let go," Jaida said to herself before going back to sleep.
