MIO HAD BEEN WALKING around the grounds of Cross Academy. She lifted her arms over her head, stretching as she yawned. "Honestly, why can't Headmaster Kaien have another student patrol? Better yet, why can't he patrol?"

Mio muttering softly carried out into the breezy night. Shivering, she pulled her coat closer to her body. The young girl jumped when she felt magic ripple through the air. Her sherbet-pink eyes quickly observed her surroundings, trying to pinpoint where the magic had come from. Looking towards the sky, she could faintingly see a trail of smoke coming from the Night Dorms.

'What the hell was that?' she thought, jogging toward the Night Dorms.

Reaching the entrance of the Night Dorms, her mouth slightly fell open. Pieces of wood were scattered throughout the front garden, and the doorway lacked a door. It was just an empty hole that showed the living room.

"Umm..."

Mio couldn't find the words to speak. Her mouth parted as she tried to form a sentence. Her thoughts were rushing through her mind faster than she could process them.

Asato Ichijo, who had been visiting his grandson, turned around to face the human presence. He wouldn't have remained stoic if it hadn't been for his age or experience. He held back the temptation to react, question, approach this human...who shouldn't be human.

He could remember the first day he saw her as if it was yesterday. She had been young, maybe four years old. Her energetic, child curiosity pulsed through her body as she ran around her family's garden.

She had her grandmother's hair, lavender. Sherbet-pink eyes from her mother. Her grandfather's calculating and observing gaze. She was the perfect combination of her maternal bloodline. There was no hint of her father's bloodline.

How could this be? No, it's impossible, Asato thought. They claimed she had died. That her mother had killed her after going mad.

"Takuma, what happened? You're old!" Mio exclaimed, unaware of who the man was.

"That's not me! This is my grandfather," Takuma's panicked voice came from behind the older Ichijo. He moved from behind his grandfather and approached Mio. "Grandfather this is uh...Mio Cross...daughter of Headmaster Cross. Hehe, as the name says, you know?"

Mio gave Takuma a 'Are you okay?' look as he overexplained and stammered. Returning her gaze to the Asato, she tried not to shift on her feet. His green eyes were fixated on her face, not moving.

"I apologize, I didn't mean to be disrespectful. Your grandson shares your features," she said, bowing. When she stood up again there was a friendly smile on her face.
