— ONCE THE SUN HAD RAISED Mio and Zero silently strolled towards the Headmaster's office. They had spent the remainder of the night sitting on the water fountain, lost in their thoughts and with no words spoken. Words didn't have to be spoken. Everything they wanted to say since Mio was bitten was already said.
Mio stopped and reached her left hand forward, clutching Zero's hand. Zero turned around, feeling the warmth from Mio's hand touch his slightly colder hand. Her locks concealed her face as she bowed her head. "You will stay, right? You won't be a Night Class student?"
Zero pursed his lips as the idea of moving into the Moon Dorms filled his mind. "No, I am not moving into the Moon Dorms." Using his free hand, Zero opened the door to the Headmaster's office and both adolescents were welcomed by an ecstatic Headmaster.
"Ah, my children! Just the people I was hoping to see. I got you a little gift! Well, it's for Zero!" The Headmaster shouted. He pulled out a freshly ironed Night Class uniform. "I believe it will suit Zero just fine."
Mio groaned, covering her face with both her palms. The Headmaster needs to stop provoking Zero with his teasing before he ends up in the hospital.
"I am not joining the Night Class!" Zero roared and struck the Headmaster on the top part of his head.
"Ow!" The Headmaster cried, placing his hands over the throbbing spot on his head. "I was just joking." He defended himself. The Headmaster cleared his throat and sat down in his chair. His ecstatic personality went away and was replaced with seriousness.
"Last night's event, as much as this will sound horrible, I'm grateful it was Mio who was bitten. If it had been another Day Student, it would have been tricky to cover up."
Zero gritted his teeth at the reminder of him bitting Mio. Mio's lips curved down into a grimace and her hand subconsciously went up to her neck, covering the white gauze. She gulped, gripping the fang wound.
"I'm not moving Zero into the Night Class. Although all vampires belong in the Night Class," the Headmaster hastily set his eyes onto Zero's stiff figure, "In this situation, I can make an exception. Especially when the Vampire Council and the Hunter Association would. . .prefer to eliminate the. . .person by their means."
"You mean I will be added to the list and hunted down." Zero declared.
"They can't!" Mio opposed. "Zero isn't a mindless Level E who craves blood. He's been able to control his thirst."
The Headmaster shook his head. "Neither the Vampire Council nor Hunter Association will listen. Just knowing he drank human blood is a death sentence."
Mio's tongue ran over her lips, a nervous habit of hers. The possibility of Zero being hunted and eliminated made her dread Zero's future. She wanted Zero to find comfort in his shattered world with someone who will show him how to love himself again.
"There is an ancient practice vampire hunter used to perform to tame Level E's. It's a temporary situation. One day, this method will no longer work. But hopefully, when that day comes by, we'll have found a restorative to vampirism."
The Headmaster removed his eyes from Zero and Mio, to stare at his hands. The words he was speaking were empty. No one has considered searching for a cure for vampirism.
Yet there was Mio.
She was born to a Pureblood vampire family and transformed into a human. Her situation could be counted as a cure to vampirism but it was short. She was enduring the consequences of the magic performed on her mind and body.
She wasn't a cure to vampirism but a temporary solution.
The Headmaster opened his right drawer and pulled out a bracelet, simple in design. It had a roped chain and in the middle, encased but a diamond shape was a figure. The Headmaster held it up.
"The symbol on the bracelet is the same as Zero's tattoo." Mio snapped her head towards Zero's neck tattoo and back to the bracelet. It was the same. "Give me your hand Zero."
Zero gave the Headmaster a suspicious look before giving him his hand. The Headmaster swiftly cut Zero's finger and allowed a few drops of blood to enter the bracelet. Mio's sherbet pink eyes watched with amazement as the bracelet gleamed purple.
The Headmaster reached his hand towards Mio, beckoning her to give him her wrist. Silently giving him her wrist, she watched as the Headmaster clicked the bracelet. "The blood in the bracelet creates a bond, linking the tattoo and the spell. If Zero loses control, you just place the bracelet against his tattoo and he'll be stopped."
The Headmaster moved the bracelet up to Zero's neck and a spark zapped the tattoo. Zero was thrown down by an invisible force and pinned to the ground.
"Uh, Zero?" Mio worried questioned. Zero's lilac eyes were out of focus, dazed by the unexpected attack.
"I'm fine, Mio."
"I know you are capable of stopping Zero, Mio. However, I know you don't want to physically hurt him. This is a harmless alternative. He won't feel physical pain, aside from soreness of being hurled to the ground."
Mio nodded her head in agreement. It was a more desirable alternative. She wouldn't have to use an anti-vampire weapon to stop Zero.
