. . . childish curiosity surpassed young Mio's fear

— MIO WAS ABLE TO GROW out of her fear of vampires. The first 2 months following her first memory, Kaien had a difficult time approaching the child. She wouldn't let him be within arm's length of her. Her body would start to tremble and she would stare at him with a fearful look in her pinkish doe eyes. He wasn't the only person at the receiving end of her behavior. When Kaname and Yuki would go over the Headmaster's residence, Mio would create distance between them, and if Yuki and Kaname dared to get closer, she would scream until they stepped back.

Eventually, Mio's fear was overpowered by a curiosity for the beings that drink blood. The stereotypes popular culture created regarding vampires piqued this curiosity.

Do vampires burn in the sun?

Do they have powers?

Can they see their reflection?

Are they repelled by garlic and crosses?!

She wanted to need to know the answers to her questions and to knew her answers, she had to stop being afraid of people approaching her.

Slowly, she would allow Kaien, Kaname, and Yuki to approach her. They were surprised when she wouldn't start screaming and allowed them to give her small affection touches. As much as they were happy Mio was growing out of her fear, they were also curious as to why. What had changed? 

It wasn't long until they learned why.

Mio peeked her head around the entrance of the kitchen and her curious eyes observing Kaien quietly talking to Kaname and Yuki. She heard her name a few times but she couldn't distinguish the conversation.

Walking up to one of the cupboards in the kitchen and remembering where the seasonings were she grabbed a garlic clove. Taking a deep breath, she stood next to Yuki's body and tugged on Kaname's sleeve, signaling him to crouch down.

Kaname shared a look of confusion with Kaien and Yuki before he followed her orders. Mio opened her mouth and then pointed to his, asking him to mimic her. Kaname opened his mouth unsure and started to choke when Mio's small hands shoved something down his throat. Kaname coughed multiple times before he was able to spit out a garlic clove onto his palm.

Mio stared at the garlic clover with her eyebrows furrowed. "Huh, the hunter said it would repel vampires," She pouted. "It didn't work. Oh, I saw a bottle of holy water somewhere! Let's see if it burns you okay?!" She exclaimed and ran out of the room. Although holy water didn't affect Kaname, that didn't mean he wasn't slightly nervous about her curiosity.

Who knows what she would do because of it?

Kaname looked up at Yuki, who was covering her mouth to stop laughing at his predicament. He looked towards Kaien and only received a sheepish smile. Kaname opened his mouth to ask what hunter Mio was talking about when holy water was thrown onto his face. This time Yuki couldn't stop the laughter from escaping her mouth. She fell onto her knees and clutched her stomach. 

"This is gold! Hahaha!" Yuki laughed, her red-brown eyes release tears of happiness.

Kaien bit his lip to prevent the laughter that was bubbling in his chest to be released. He approached Mio and gently grabbed the holy water bottle out of her hand. "Mio, don't believe what you see on tv."
