Back to work

The transparent doors, the polite guard who said hello to her, the long hallways, the sounds of printers, phones, and employees' voices as Taylor's heels drummed on the floor.

It was as if this almost three month absence from the office had never happened.

Taylor walked forward with a cold expression on her face, head held high and occasionally shooting her employees a penetrating glance.

The Great and Terrible was at it again. At least it seemed so from the outside.

Taylor's own heart was pounding so hard it seemed to settle in her stomach. The closer she got to her office, the worse it got. She knew the evil carpet had been thrown out and cleaned many times, but who would feel better about that?

"Um...my name is Victoria Mrs." repeated the young blonde girl standing in front of her and Taylor seemed to snap out of her stupor

"Oh, right.Nice to meet you" Taylor nodded and shook her outstretched hand.

"Victoria just graduated from NYU but the company could use some fresh blood to brighten up our dull 30s, what do you say?"  George, the head of the board, said with a smirk.

"Absolutely," agreed Taylor but as she and the man walked to the back of the office she added, "but that doesn't mean you have to hire every girl you fuck as my assistant."

"Someone already snitched on you, didn't they?" The man sighed.

"No, you two just have "we're sleeping together" written all over your face."

"In my defense, we hired her before I started fucking her, so I swear she's good at her job."

"You're such an asshole."

"My ex-wife said the same thing."

They both laughed. George and Taylor had known each other for about ten years. They were pretty close, so much so that for a while in 2015 and 2016 the media piously believed that Taylor was cheating on Tom with him.

As they continued walking through the office, Taylor couldn't help but notice the glances and whispers from her employees. It was clear that news of her return had spread like wildfire, fueling the gossip mill within the company. She maintained her composed expression, refusing to let the internal turmoil show on the surface.

Entering her office, Taylor took a moment to survey her surroundings. It was the same room she had left three months ago, meticulously organized and adorned with personal touches that made it feel like her own sanctuary. The large desk, the leather chair, the framed photographs—everything remained intact.

George leaned against the doorframe, observing Taylor with a knowing smile. "Feels good to be back, doesn't it?"

Taylor exhaled softly, her facade momentarily faltering. "It's a mix of emotions, to be honest. But yes, it's good to be back."

George nodded in understanding. "Well, the team will need some time to adjust, especially with your absence. But they'll fall back into rhythm soon enough"

"Of course they will, another way they'll be fired and they know it"

"Yeah. We have a big board meeting in half an hour, so I'm gonna go read my paperwork again."

"Just not with Victoria."

"You're not fun. And you're selfish. I didn't say a word when you were here with Mr. Alwyn"

"We were just discussing a plan of action!"

"Oh, yeah, that's why you were on the table "

"Screw you"
