WHEN GRACIE WALKED INTO THE HOUSE, the smell of a home cooked meal over came her. the smile couldn't have wiped of her face, it only grew. she was convinced she was too happy here, nothing could actually take the smile from her.

"thank God you're here, what took you so long it's getting bad." nick looked at her scared.

her smile faltered.

"i was still in the car talking to matt what's wrong?" she blinked and nick led her into the dinning room, where they were all mostly sat.

the tension in her room hit her unexpectedly. she didn't know who or what from, but nick was right. it was bad.

"hey." she smiled at mary lou and jimmy and sat in one of the empty seats next to the two. the mother took her eyes off what she was focused on to look at the girl and smile in greeting.

gracie sat confused, wondering what everyone was so focused on. her eyes ran over every person sat, finally landing on chris.

who looked furious.

ivy looked just as angry and gracie's deductive skills let her mind fall to the obvious. something happened. it was five minutes that she stayed in the car—maybe ten? or twenty she wasn't sure.

either way something happening? maybe things were worst then she thought.

"what's to ea—" matt walked in happily, closing the door behind him and making his way to the dining room.

something felt off to him too when he walked in, but he stayed quiet, making his way to the seat next to gracie and sending an odd smile to the rest.

nate tried to signal him to look at chris with his eyes but matt just looked at his best friend confused, and then geniunely concerned thinking there was something wrong with nate's eyes.

"you know." mary lou broke the silence and jackson sighed in relief, hating the tension in the room. "no one ever explain to me how you all met." she mentioned, hoping that the story would lighten up the mood.

nick started laughing when matt choked on his food. jackson laughed as well when gracie grinned.

"me jacks and vee worked at a panera and madi and matt would come in for mac and cheese like all the time." she smiled and jimmy raised his eyebrow.

"really? matty never liked mac and cheese growing up." he mentioned and matt's cheeks burned red.

"huh." she sat back in her seat.

"well he sure did like it when it came to panera." jackson snorted and nick couldn't hold in his laughter anymore. he laughed loudly and matt sent a pointed look his way. it did nothing, only egged nick on.
