Chapter 15
Annabeth Pov
I need to get someone alone so they can explain to me this situation. It was never this sad when I went here. I thought as I stood up from the table. "I'm going to walk around guys."
"Do you want any of us to come?" Luke asked.
"No thanks Loxias, I just want to be alone for a while. Thanks for the offer though." I turned and left the mess hall. I walked to the lake. It used to calm me down a lot when I was younger.
I was walking along the edge of the lake, when it started to bubble in the middle. For some reason it seemed slightly familiar to me. As the bubble came up to the surface it also came to the shore line on the same side of where I was walking.
A boy stepped out of it completely dry. He must be a son of Poseidon. I thought to myself. He noticed me and waved I waved back and started walking towards him.
"Owl, right?"
"Yeah." I smiled at him as I came closer.
"I'm Percy, Percy Jackson." He held out his hand for me to shake.
I did when I came to a stop in front of him. "Hey I have a question, would you mind answering it?" I asked.
"Yeah, sure." He gestured for us to sit down on the sand. I complied "what is it?"
"What happened here? It seems different than what Red and Hunter had told me about it. I can tell everyone seems way too sad. Red told me once that he looked forward to camp every year because it was always so welcoming and homey. Though it seems like everyone is forced to come here now." His face turned placid as I spoke, he didn't seem to want to talk about it. "If you don't want to tell me that's ok, I'll just go ask someone else." I started to stand up to leave when he sighed.
"It's ok, I'll tell you. It's just that some of it is sorta hazy. All I know is that some people around here-I'm not sure who- kicked some people out. These people were quite close to me actually. I've only been told who they were not anything about why they left though." He lowered his gaze to the sand at his feet. "I'm sorry I can't tell you anything more I don't remember anything other than that."
"That's alright that's more than I have right now. Thank you; if you remember anything else please tell me." I said smiling at him and patting his knee which he brought up closer to his chest as he talked.
He smiled back at me, "you know you sort of act like one of them." he looked down, "I miss her, can you help find them? They went missing a long time ago, I know but they might have gone to you guys. Nico said that he didn't feel their souls go into the underworld, and he said he's combed the place through and through. I've even gone down to look. They're nowhere, just up and vanished." he looked over to me with pleading eyes, "can you please help us?"
I stopped for a second, he's talking about us. But I've never met him even though something in me always jumps when he touches me. Or I seem happy every time I'm around him. I could lie to him and tell him that I can't help or I could lie and tell him I'll try.
Or I can tell him the truth.
That we're right here, and not moving until this battle is over and done with. But that's also out of the question. "I can try my best Percy. But I can't promise anything." At this his face lit up with joy.
"Thank you Owl, I really appreciate it." he stood up and held out his hand to me, I took it and was immediately given an onslaught of images. I didn't have time to comprehend them before he took back his hand and frowned down at it. "Well, I'll see you Ann-Owl."
"Yeah see you." He almost called me a different name, but what was it he could have wanted to call me. He never knew me before so why would he know my name. I was kicked out of the camp, I shouldn't be remembered. And those images I saw in my head, what were those? Were they visions regarding Percy or memories I've succeeded at burying maybe a little too well.
Oh well, I'll figure it out at another time. Meanwhile my team needs to get back in shape, I've been letting them do their own thing for a while and it needs to stop.
As I neared our cabin I saw some of the team milling around the camp, as I walked by them they started to follow me. "We're going to the arena; I've been too lenient we have to go train some." No one disagreed with my proposition.
