Chapter 23

Hazel Pov

We won! I was grinning like a fool until I turned and saw Annabeth on the ground with Percy standing over her, looking quite befuddled. "Andra!" I yelled and ran over to her; I fell to her side and tilted my head to her chest to listen to her heart beat. It was there and strong but something was defiantly wrong. I looked up to Percy, "what happened?"

"I'm not sure, she flipped me and when the flag disappeared she passed out. I swear I didn't hurt her." He sounded panicked and worried for her, yet helpless at the same time.

"Ok, thanks." I looked back down at her and felt for a pulse. It was there and seemed fine to me. I sighed. "You can go now Percy; sorry it got a little weird. I'll get her back to the infirmary." Right when he started to leave Annabeth started to wake up. "Annabeth!" I whisper yelled. "Are you ok?"

"Yeah, fine," she said looking over at Percy's retreating back.

"c'mon, let's go to the infirmary to make sure your ok." I took her arm and pulled her up. Once she was stable we started walking. "Are you sure you're ok?"

"Yes, just shaken up. Sorry to worry you."

"It's ok." We were silent for a while. "Hey, I'm talking to Nico tonight; I'll ask him why it's all so different. Ok?"

She lifted the corners of her lips in a sad smile, "thanks Hazel," she said.

"No problem."

Nico Pov

Didn't see that coming did you???

I smiled at Hazel; she had grown in character since I last saw her. Our team had won the Roman capture the flag game and it was time for dinner. Hazel sat with her team, I really wanted to talk to her and reconnect. I also wanted to know if she had seen the others that she left with- if they stayed together or not. I needed to explain to her about what happened to us, what went through our heads that fateful night I lost two of the most important people in my life.

When I finished with my supper, I moved on to my cabin. I'll just wait here for Hazel. And I did, for a good twenty minutes, I was starting to get antsy so I started to pace around my room. I'll just let her take her time. I shouldn't be the overbearing brother now. I heard the door slowly creak open, looking up I heard Hazel ask if I was here. I tend to keep the lights off.

"Yeah I'm here; sorry I forgot to turn on the lights." She flicked the lights on and closed the door. She just stood there, before flicking her hood down and gazed sheepishly at the floor. "I'm glad your back," I said to her as I went up to hug her, she returned it with the same ferocity.

We sat down on my bed to talk things out, I guess. "I kept everything the way you left it," I said gesturing to her neat and tidy side of the room, all that changed was the layer of dust that had settled over it, and even then I would clean it every few months.

"Thanks," she smiled a little then frowned. "Can I ask you something?"

"Yeah sure."

"What happened to camp?"

"What do you mean?" I was confused, nothings different other than the camps attitude.

"I mean when did we get more campers? And from the big three no less. When did Percy and Jason get here? I don't remember them at all. And Leo? I think I would remember him, he sort of looks like someone I used to know. And I'm almost sure I would remember a giant Ares kid who doesn't like to fight and uses a bow. So? What happened?" I almost laughed at her mini spiel but she said it with such seriousness I didn't dare.

"What do you mean? Jason and Frank were at the Roman camp with you, you came after they did. Percy has been at the Greek camp since before I was here and Leo came last summer, you went on the Argo II with him all last summer." I paused; I just couldn't believe she didn't remember them at all. "Hazel, Frank was your boyfriend. Do you seriously not remember that at all?"

"What? When was Frank ever my boyfriend? I just met him." Her face was full of confusion. Did she really not remember him?

"Do you remember why you left?"

"Yeah, Lexi stole..." she paused as her face started to scrunch up. "She... she, well I don't remember what she did but I remember it was terrible and I never want to see her again."

"Yeah she was a major part of it, but Frank was as well." Hazel got up and started pacing around. "What do you remember about camp before you left Hazel?"

"I remember Camp defeating Gaea but not how, I remember the girls and Ian coming to camp and trying to take over. Then they did something," she grabbed her head as if she was in pain. "I-I don't remember what they did but it was bad, really bad." She dropped to the ground and I rushed to kneel next to her. "I don't know why we left Nico, I want to know." She was starting to cry now; her face had become so stricken with sadness and worry that I almost didn't want to tell her what happened. "Grover came and started talking nonsense about Cally, Lexi and the others. I don't know what he was talking about but I want to know, Nico. I want to know!" she grabbed the front of my shirt and stared at me through her blurred eyes.

I sighed, I don't like this topic much, but I will say it, for her. "Ok Hazel, I'll tell you but please don't interrupt me until I get it out, I don't like talking about it." I whispered as I took her hands off my shirt and put them back into her lap. When she nodded I took in a deep breath before starting the story. "We didn't do it on purpose," she gave me a funny look but kept quiet. "Somehow they got us, even the rest of the campers, under a mind control type thing and made us believe that either you cheated on us, or you guys weren't good enough. He still loves you, ya know. They would take all of you back. If I saw Will, the first thing I'd do was kiss the daylights out of him." I gave a small smile thinking of him. "Do you know where he is?" I asked solemnly.

She hesitated, like she knew but didn't want to tell me. "No, when we left, we all broke apart. I'm not sure where he is, I've seen him before, he looked okay but he does miss you. From what he told me back then." She looked down, "I should go back, the others might be looking for me."

I nodded "it was good seeing you sis, I want to talk again some other time, ok?" I said standing and pulling her with me.

"Yeah, I'd like that." She gave me a small smile again, "I love you Nico, bye," she gave me one last hug before flicking up her hood and striding out the front door.
