Chapter 16

*at the arena*

Will Pov

When I saw the dark clothed boy up on that table looking so dejected it almost broke my heart. Seeing everyone like that was killing me. My siblings, being the children of the god of the sun were looking like they would rather be sunk in the shadows than bathed in the sun light our father represents. I stood in the arena contemplating between this and shooting my bow at some of the dummies set up around the circle designated for the archers. So deep in thought that I almost didn't hear Ian come up behind me and grab me by my shoulder to spin me around and face him.

"Who do you guys think you are? Huh? Well I've got news for you mister, stay away from Nico, I saw you looking at him today at lunch. Don't think I didn't notice." He snarled. I realized then he was meaning the boy radiating death.

I laughed, "You really are full of yourself aren't you? Well I've got news for you bub, maybe Nico doesn't like you. Has he ever actually told you that he likes you?" I was rambling now and I knew it but I couldn't seem to make myself stop. "Maybe he wants someone who can actually understand where he's coming from, maybe he wants someone a little manlier." I said with a smirk on my lips.

Ian's face was getting redder and redder by the second. "How dare you!" he screeched. "Nico loves me! He would never leave me for the likes of you!"

"Aww now come on Ian, that's not true. I mean I might not leave you for him; but I sure as Hades am leaving you." Nico said pushing out of the shadows. He's cocky, good for him. I thought smirking. "Now thank you for your help Sun, but I've got it from here." He said turning to me, I nodded and left to find someone on my team to spar with. I hadn't gone ten steps before I heard a voice yell out.

"Hey! Sunshine!" I cringed at my old nickname. "Turn around and face me!"

"What do you want?" I asked Ian turning to face him.

"Were gonna duel and you're going to like it, got it?" He said venom dripping from his voice.

"Ok, when?" I asked.

"Right now, don't be too frightened though. Most people are intimidated by me at first sight." He said cockily, l stifled a laugh and resorted to grinning wildly. Can I use my wings? I asked Annabeth giddily via our mind link.

Go right ahead; just don't use them right away. I don't want the rest of us having to unveil ours too soon. She replied soon after.

Gotcha, wings if necessary. I replied sending her a mock salute making the people around me turn and look at me in confusion. I saw her fail at stifling a smile as she saw it. Ian was standing in the middle of the arena next to Chiron, who had just arrived to referee the battle. He nodded to me, "all powers, and weapons allowed. No maiming or killing. BEGIN!!!!" he shouted. We stood there for a second; suddenly Ian launched himself at me: I decided to play with him for a little. I dodged as he ran at me like a bull. He realized this and turned around to find me at the other end, not even having my sword out. He grinned as he help up his own and waited for my attack. I smirked to him and unsheathed my sword, it was nothing special just a normal demigod sword. I raised it to him and went into a defensive stance, prompting him to come at me. He smirked and obliged running at me once more.

His sword swung down at me and mine was up in a flash to block. He kept pressing down on my sword, I kept pushing right back. He eventually backed up and swung from a different angle. He came at me from my left and I blocked again. This continued for a few more moments with a few dodges here and there. Him parrying and me blocking with a few visa versa things here and there. Finally I thought it was enough of the dancing around each other and parried my own attacks at him. In return he fired literal balls of fire at me. Each of them missed their target with the help of some swift moves from yours truly.

I took a few large steps towards Ian and as I got close his eyes widened. I smirked and detached the bottom part of my cloak, leaving the hood on. Wings out I'm gonna scare the shit out of this little boy, prepare for a fainted Ian. I sent quickly to the team, I heard them snicker at my joke. I whipped out my wings as fast as I could and pushed up hard, not caring who saw, only knowing that my wings were cramped and they were in need of a stretch. Come on up guys the views great. I said as I looked down at a shocked camp and a fainted Ian. I found myself cracking up at my prediction of what he was going to do.

The others looked at each other for a second and threw the bottom half of their cloaks down to the ground and began to stretch their differently colored wings. The part of our team that didn't have wings still threw down the bottom half of their cloaks too and stretched their various anomalies of appendages. I saw Castor run to a tree and climb it using his tail and monkey like feet. The others flicked their tails happily, moving them back and forth. Zoë turned her eyes back to their regular snake like eyes and moved silently over to Luke, obviously trying to scare him. It worked: he growled and swung her around ending with her in front of him and him hugging from behind. I laughed at the rest of the team. Slowly I glided down to the campers and Ian, who was slowly getting up.

"What the hell? You guys were lying the whole time! Who knows what else you weren't telling us!" he exclaimed as I landed softly next to him.

"No we didn't, we only withheld information. It wouldn't have made much of a difference. You would have found out when we fight, we use them so often during our fights it's impossible for us not to use them." I replied looking bored. I turned to the team, "want to go back yet?" I asked getting various looks of tiredness and boredom. Annabeth waved her hand toward our cabin indicating that we were to leave.

As I walked towards it, I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and saw one of the new Aphrodite children standing there. "Hi, I'm Ellie. You looked really good out there today." She moved closer and put her hand on my upper arm. "We should go out sometime." She said bluntly. By then the rest of the team noticed I wasn't following and had turned around to watch what was happening. I burst out laughing as well as the team. She gave us each a questioning look, her hand slipped from his arm. "Why are you laughing? What's so funny?" She seethed jutting her hip to the side and placing her obviously manicure hand on her hip for good measure.

I put my hand on her shoulder and looked in her eyes, looking very serious I said "honey, as much as I enjoy girls saying that to me, and I do, really. I hate to break it to you hard," I said to her, I paused for slight dramatic effect. "But I'm gay," I turned and strode towards my laughing team and cabin. I could only imagine the shock on her face.
