the next morning, i wake up before saylor does. it's about ten in the morning, but she's showing no signs of waking up any time soon. i'm laying on my back, and her body is curled into mine. her arms are around me, and her face is buried into me.

i couldn't help but stare at her for a few moments. despite our rocky start, she's still here. she still cares about me and wants to be with me. it's almost overwhelming at times to realize just how much she truly cares for me.

it's especially overwhelming when i've spent so long thinking that i didn't deserve any of this.

after a short while, i slowly peeled myself away from her. she sleepily whined as i did so, but she eventually buried her face into her pillow and went back to sleeping soundly.

i made my way to the bathroom, and i was careful to be quiet as i did my morning routine. i fixed up my hair, brushed my teeth, etc. after i was done, i made my way back out of the bathroom. my eyes landed back on saylor, who was still very much asleep.

i thought back to last night. she had clearly had quite a bit to drink. i should've tried to sober her up a little with at least a snack once we were back here, but she had pretty much immediately went to sleep, so i didn't really have a chance to.

regardless, i should get her some breakfast to wake up to; i know from plenty of personal experience that waking up to food after going to sleep drunk is pretty great.

i walked over, and i grabbed my phone off of saylor's bedside table. i went to door dash, and i ordered quite a bit of food. while i waited for it, i stepped out onto the balcony with my cigarettes and lighter. i opened the pack, and i frowned as i saw a little less than half of the new pack left. after i bought them, i ended up chain-smoking to try to calm down, but it did little to help.

i can barely handle my girlfriend going to a party without damn near having an anxiety attack... how fucking embarrassing.

i pulled one of the cigarettes out of the pack, and i placed it between my lips to light it. i leaned against the railing as i smoked, and i looked out across the city. although new york city can be overwhelming to most people, or people who come here for the first time, i find it oddly calming at times. i'm not even sure exactly what about it is calming, it just is.

soon enough, our food was here. i thanked the deliverer, and i brought the food inside. i set it on the counter for now. i fixed us both a glass, and i set our food on actual plates, instead of the bags it was in. then, i searched through her cabinets until i found some pain relief medicine, in case she has a bad hangover.

in a few trips, i managed to bring everything to saylor's room and set it to the side for now. i then sat on her bed, and i gently shook her awake.

"let me sleep," she whined as she rolled onto her other side.

"wake up, darling," i pleaded softly as i shook her again.

i watched as she turned to look at me. she had a sleepy pout on her face, and her eyes were squinted as she looked up at me. i then watched as she looked behind me. her mouth fell open as her eyes landed on the food, the drinks, and the pain medicine.

"alex," she trailed off in a murmur as she looked back to me.

she's taken care of me so much, even when i didn't deserve it, so it feels so nice to be able to take care of her for once.

"does your head hurt?" i asked as my eyes searched her's.

she stared up at me, awestruck, before her pout was back. she gave a pitiful nod in response. i leaned down, and i planted a gentle kiss to her forehead. i then grabbed the bottle of pain medicine, and i gave her the appropriate amount, as well as her glass. she thanked me before she downed the pills.
