"darling," i was woken up to a soft murmur, which was soon followed by soft kisses being planted across my face. "my loveee."

i didn't open my eyes quite yet, but instead basked in the moment. alex's hand lifted to cup my face, and they rubbed their thumb across my cheek. "angel," they murmured once more.

when i finally peeked my eyes open with a soft smile, i was met with alex's own, gentle smile. their smile widened once they noticed i was awake. "good morning, baby," i spoke softly, my eyes still only half opened from still being sleepy.

"g'morning, darling," they replied before a wide grin spread across their lips. "happy birthday."

i couldn't help the grin that spread across my own lips. "thank you."

yesterday, alex told me to pack a suitcase and to pack a bathing suit or two. alex didn't even tell me where we were going, until we got to the airport. i was pleasantly surprised to find out that we were on our way to bora bora. i had only jokingly mentioned one time about going there for my birthday to them, so the fact that they went through with it was heartwarming. i was super excited for almost the entire trip... until we actually got here; we fell asleep pretty much as soon as we laid in the bed.

"you hungry?" alex asked as they curled a piece of hair behind my ear.

"yes," i didn't hesitate to answer.

i let out a surprised scream as they suddenly picked me up, bridal style, and carried me into the kitchen area of the bungalow we were staying in. they placed me on the counter, where i spotted an array of different breakfast items. alex got a forkful of one of the items, and they held it out towards me with a teasing grin. i playfully rolled my eyes as i leaned forward to take a bite of it.

"oh, fuck, that's good," i mumbled, which made alex let out a loud laugh. when they also took a bite out of it, they out an obviously dramatized moan, which made me giggle more than it should have. 

"god, i love you," i cupped their face, pulled them to stand between my legs, then pressed my lips to theirs.

"that works out, because i actually love you too," they pulled back ever so slightly with another teasing smirk as they looked at me with low eyes. they lifted their hands to hold my waist.

"you're so annoying," i bit my lip as my eyes scanned their face.

"but you love me," they let their smirk turn into a grin.

"somehow," i teased before pulling their face back to mine and pressing my lips to theirs again.

after we finished eating, alex asked if i wanted to go out and swim, which i obviously agreed to. so, we both changed into our swimwear; i put on a cute, purple bikini, while alex put on a pair of swim shorts that i had gotten them this summer, as well as a bucket hat.

once we were both dressed, i made alex let me put sunscreen on them. even though they were wearing a bucket hat, i still gently applied sunscreen to their face. when i was done, i asked if they would help put my sunscreen on, which they agreed to. they pulled me close, put some sunscreen in their hands, then ever so softly applied it to my face. as they did so, they had a sweet smile on their face, and they were humming a song that i couldn't recognize.

soon enough, we were out in the water, and we were swimming. there were, surprisingly, not a lot of people out swimming. of course, i wasn't going to complain. i enjoyed the slight privacy we had.

"you know," i started as i swam towards alex. "this makes the second year in a row that we've gone to a beach, in august. is this gonna be our lil' tradition?"
