Colin took his hands out of his pockets and sighed. "Why'd you come?"
"I was wondering where you got that latest note from Angel."
Colin shrugged. "It was lying underneath the mat when I checked for the key."
She nodded. He started walking up the stairs while whirling a tune that Kendall instantly remembered. She ran up after him.
"You know Last Amanda too?!"
He turned around with a wide grin. "Yes!"
Her heart flipped. "They're my favorite."
He kept walking and stopped at the top of the stairs. "My all time favorite is Metallica."
"I had a feeling," she paused. "Ronnie."
His eyes grew wide in surprise. "You know the song Ronnie?"
"Who doesn't know the story of a quiet town with a small town boy, big time frown, never talks, never plays, different path, lost his way."
His eyes sparkled. "Well, did you know dead streets are red, no confetti, no parade?"
Kendall took a moment to remember the rest of the Ronnie lyrics. "Nothing happens in this boring place."
He smirked. "Blood stains wash away."
"So you really are a true Metallica fan?"
He nodded. "And you?"
She looked down. "After my dad left my mom put all of his stuff in boxes and one day, I went through one labeled Albums and I saw Garage Inc., Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightening, and Kill 'em All. Basically, when my dad was in high school he was a total metal head. I listened to one after another. My dad wasn't a bad father. He just ruined everything by cheating."
Colin was lost in thought before speaking. "My dad is a good father but he's been different ever since my mom left. That doesn't say much because she left when I was in first grade. I came home one day from school and he was sitting on the floor, crying. He said, your moms gone, son. She was a heavy drinker. I knew she was an alcoholic and even at the age, I knew it was coming. She packed up all of her things and left. I think she's dead though."
"I'm sorry."
He shrugged. "It was ten years ago."
She shook her head. "It doesn't give her any right to walk of your life. Especially since she was the one that brought you here."
Colin shoved his hands in his pockets. "You're right. But that's the past. This is now."
"Can I have your phone for a second?"
He nodded, pulling out a Samsung Galaxy out of his pocket. "Sure."
She smiled and grabbed it. "Thanks."
She added her number to his contacts and handed it back. "For when you find anything or want to talk about music and parents."
Colin gave a smile that wasn't exactly a smile or a frown. Kendall sighed. "I should get going."
She turned around and started down the stairs just as Colin grabbed her arm. "We should do something tomorrow."
"Text me what you had in mind."
He nodded and watched her leave. Kendall smiled as she got to the car and started the engine just as her phone buzzed. She didn't recognize the number but opened the text:
Maybe swimming or see a movie?
She smiled as she added the number under the name Colin. She texted back:
What movie?
A/N: if you're confused about Kendall and Colin's conversation about Ronnie, Ronnie is a song by Metallica and basically Kendall and Colin are saying the lyrics to each other.
