Kendall observed the bright blue sky, the bustling pedestrians, and crowded shops. Nate sighed out of relief when they reached Subway. He reached a hand up to his forehead, wiping the sweat and took a glance at his watch.
"Glad to get out of that boutique. So creepy. Plus, we're just in time for lunch. It's noon."
Kendall forced a smile as they walked through the entrance doors. "Sorry we kind of ruined your job."
Nate dismissed the apology. "Naw... I'm glad to be coming back to Albany. Kind of nervous, though."
"I wish you, your family, and Beth luck."
He nodded, stepping in line behind a bunch of people. "Thanks."
Amanda glanced at her. "Wanna split a veggie footlong?"
She nodded.
Amanda smirked. "Nate, I'm paying for us all."
He nodded. "You owe me it."
After a fifteen minute wait, they all ordered veggie subs and finally sat down to eat. The sub tasted so good that Kendall accidentally let out a moan. Everyone stared at her, strangely. She blushed from embarrassment, muttering an apology. Amanda giggled as Nate shook his head in disappointment.
She noticed his shamefully expression and felt insulted. "Why are you giving me that look?"
Unfortunately, Kendall spoke with a mouthful of the sub and sprayed Nate with lettuce. His mouth opened in horror as he wiped the chewed up lettuce from his face.
She cringed in embarrassment. "Oh my God, I'm so sorry..."
He nodded, nervously wiping his hands on his jeans.
Amanda giggled as she watched the chaos unfold. "You're afraid of us aren't you?"
He sighed. "What would you be feeling if you were living in Brooklyn, New York on your own and met two teenage girls that managed to get you into stealing two dresses from your boss' store?"
Kendall looked down at the tiled floor in embarrassment.
Amanda sucked in her breath. "Adrenaline."
Kendall looked up at her with a smirk. Amanda tossed her hair, dramatically. Nate gave Kendall a confused look.
She put a hand to her mouth, whispering. "She does this a lot. Don't be frightened."
His eyes widened but he relaxed back into his chair, sighing. "What do we do now?"
Amanda's eyes widened in excitement. "Run."
They stared at her in confusion once again.
She happily stood up. "C'mon, just run."
He unsteadily stood.
Kendall was already running out of Subway with her.
Amanda giggled. "See, this is fun!"
Nate was sprinting after them. She ran, passing the honking cars and taxis, mean pedestrians, and chased the blue sky. She sighed in delight and ran with her head back, outstretched arms, and closed eyes. Amanda seemed to yell something about watching out but Kendall didn't hear.
She was lying on her back, the air taken from her lungs, eyes stinging, and heart racing. A familiar face loomed over her own. His hand was outstretched to help her up and a look of worry washed out his face.
It was Colin.
