Kendall heavily sighed, hoping that she looked decent. Ms. Smith hurriedly curled her long blonde hair, making it look like she was one of the contestants from toddlers and tiaras. She applied red lip stick and slipped into the prom dress that her and Amanda stole with Nate. She smiled as she put on her black high heels just as the doorbell rang. Her heart thudded in her chest. She ran down the stairs, opening the door before her mother even had a chance to get down one step.
Bill smiled back at her in a suit and tie, sharp as could be. Kendall felt heat rise to her cheeks when she heard her mother's voice. "Time for pictures!"
She snapped a picture in their faces, making Kendall see white and purple on the edges of her vision.
She chuckled nervously. "What about the corsage?"
Bill smirked, putting the corsage around her wrist, as her mother snapped another picture.
Ms. Smith took a step closer to him, extending a hand. "You must be Bill."
He grinned. "And you must be Kendall's sister."
She rolled her eyes as her mother nodded. "Yes."
He chuckled. "Well nice to meet you." He paused before going on. "Kendall's sister."
Ms. Smith laughed heartily. "You two go have fun and don't get into trouble."
The whole ride to the school was so quiet that Kendall was almost certain that Bill could hear her beating heart.
Bill sucked in his breath. "So, what I was telling you on the phone..."
She gulped. "Yes?"
He glanced over at her. "I..." he swallowed hard. "I love you, Kendall."
Her heart surged. "Bill."
He put a finger to her lips and hushed her. "I love you to your veins. I love you through your bones. Through and through."
She smiled widely. "Aww..."
He parked in the crowded parking lot and stared at the steering wheel. "I know you don't feel as strongly as I do but I figured you should know. We're going to have a great time tonight."
She felt butterflies flutter around her stomach and grabbed him in a tight embrace. "Thank you, Bill," she swallowed hard. "For everything."
He smirked as he helped her get out of the car. The school hummed with nervous activity. She intertwined her fingers through Bill's.
"You look hot."
He winked at her. "I know I do but you're hotter."
She rolled her eyes, chuckling. "I know."
The second that they walked into the gymnasium, blasting music, Kendall felt nervous goosebumps form on her arms. She looked up at Bill.
"I'll be right back."
He nodded. "You go do whatever you need but I have your back for you."
She hurried away, pushing the exit doors open and entered the hallway. The hallway was dark and quiet. She stood against the cool wall and slowly slid to the floor, remembering this was the spot where she was trying to scare Bill but ended up running into Zoe right before she died. She suddenly was too shaken by the memory and fought tears. Just then, she noticed a figure on the other end of the hallway, slouched, in the corner.
She stood slowly, frightened. "Hello?"
The figure stood up, wiping their eyes. "Sorry."
It was the same boy she saw outside during the night when she discovered that there were three people in Angel. Her heart thudded in her chest as the boy came closer but was still hidden by the shadows.
She gasped. "You better stay the hell away from me."
He chuckled, wiping his eyes.
She ran back down the hallway and into the gymnasium where almost ironically, collided with Colin, once more.
His black eye made her cringe. "Why are you here?"
He chuckled. "I can't miss your big night, now can I?"
She sighed. "How did you get that black eye?"
He sighed uncomfortably. "I was mad at you yesterday, so I went to relieve some stress out at the soccer fields and I nailed myself with the ball."
She looked down in embarrassment. "I'm sorry."
He nodded just as Jenny's voice filled the speakers. Her heart sank when she saw Jenny on stage. The sabotage had begun.
She chuckled into the mic. "This is for Sam Sonne."
She pointed to Sam and Amanda in the middle of the gym. She started the song, blaring it as loud as it would go and sung along.
"I'm just sixteen if you know what I mean. Do you mind if I take off my dress?" She gestured to her lavender prom dress, then held up a finger, "Might wanna cross up your legs."
The gymnasium erupted into laughter.
"There was this boy who tore my heart in two." She made her hands into a heart and tore them apart, pointing at Sam. Amanda's face was red with rage. "I had to bury him eight feet under ground."
The song went on for two more minutes before the lights went out and a hand went over Kendall's mouth from behind and was dragged into the hallway. She thrashed and kicked with all she had, but the person was simply too strong. She bit down on their hand as hard as she could and the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth. They yelled and flew backwards.
She gasped, running down the hallway and the realization hit her that this was the time that Angel will come out. She slammed into an exit door but it was chained and the realization that the doors were locked hit her hard.
Her heart raced, frantically as if it would stop at any moment. She turned around to face one third of Angel. Someone read over next to her with look of terror. Relief flooded Kendall's senses when she saw that it was Amanda. Her eyes were filled with terror.
"Kendall, thank God you're here!"
She nodded. "Thank God you're here!"
The person that Kendall bit was back, but his face was hidden in the shadows. He stepped closer and he was close enough that Kendall could recognize him.
She screamed hysterically at the top of her lungs as her heart shattered into a million pieces, and fell to the floor, eyes filled with tears of betrayal.
