I Forgot Something

She made it to the house on the first try, thanking her crappy father for having the dominant gene of sense of direction. She shakily stepped out of the car and slowly walked up Finstock's lawn. On the front porch she lifted the mat and clasped her hand around the small silver key. She exhaled loudly and opened the door. The hallway was the same as it was only hours earlier. The only difference was the note on the table. She lifted it off of the table:

I kind of hoped that you would come back. Unfortunately, I knew that I wouldn't be here if you did in fact come back. Don't worry, I turned off the cameras. Meet me at fifty five pine avenue.

Colin

A relieved sigh escaped her lips. She was just about to leave when she heard a freak on the floor boards.

"Colin?"

There was shuffling across the floor upstairs. "Hello?"

A girl's blonde head popped up over the landing. Her eyes were sad and red.

She gasped. "Oh my god, Chloe!"

Chloe looked down as she walked down the stairs. "I miss her."

She walked towards Chloe and grabbed her in an embrace. "I do too."

Chloe hid her face in her shoulder. "She was so smart. If you got to know her... She was so nice and funny."

"I don't know if she'd want to be cried over."

Chloe nodded. "She would us to forget. But how can I? If pain was an eternal flame, then I must be on fire."

She nodded, sadly.

Chloe pulled away her her. "I don't know if anyone knows but I was in love with her."

"I know what you mean. I love Amanda too."

She shook her head. "Not like that. I was in love with her. I loved her with all of my heart. She was so beautiful."

"She is beautiful. Why are you here?"

Chloe frowned. "I live behind this house. I just felt like I forgot something in here."

Kendall gave her a confused look. "When were you ever here?"

Chloe smirked with sad eyes. "This was where the party was Monday night."

"That explains a lot because Bill knew where the key was."

Chloe nodded. "Well, I should go." She walked out the door and disappeared into the woods.

Kendall went back to her car in a hurry. She pulled out the note and reread the address again: fifty five pine avenue.

She typed the address into her GPS and was shocked to see that it was only a couple minutes away. She parked in front of a fairly big white and brick house. The mailbox had a fifty five along with the name Zusak. She took a deep breath and walked into the front porch. She sighed verbosely as she pressed the door bell. She waited for what seemed like an eternity before ringing the bell again. Second thoughts formed into her mind and she was already turning around to go back home when the door swung open.

"Kendall?"

She spun around to face Colin. His hair was wet and he wore a white button door shirt and shorts.

He sighed. "Sorry, I just took a shower."

"I see."

He tugged on the bottom of his shirt. "Wanna come in?"

"If I have to," and stepped inside.

The hallway was quite small but there was a staircase upstairs and two other rooks on both sides of the hallway.

"Your parents...?"

He shook his head. "My dad is on a business trip and my mom... I'm not sure where she is."

She gave him a confused look.

He looked down. "She left us when I was six."

"My dad left us when I was fourteen."

He shoved his hands in his pockets. "Love sucks sometimes."

"But sometimes it can be the only good thing in the world."

Kendall looked up at Colin. His dark eyes made her feel powerless, so she looked away.
