"So, what you're telling me is that, creatures from 100 years ago somehow came back, creatures that look like creepy shadows and can take over any other creature except their own, have taken over the planet Voanerth completely?" Kristin said. We were now in the house, since Kristin didn't want to discuss everything right at the edge of the city. She trust this "Isalieus" guy, for some reason, and he also knows who we really are. I don't really support this, but the girl needs to learn how to make her own decisions.
"The creatures didn't do it themselves. The Empress, who I thought was being controlled by a shadow, which they call the Mistress, holds the Oculus." He said, adding on.
"The Oculus is the sword of Faltor, only can be truly wielded by a member of the Imperial Family." Kristin said.
"Not exactly. Anybody with even a drop of blood from the Ancient Ancestor, can wield any of the Majestic Weapons. And as far as I understand, when a shadow takes over somebody, it takes a molecule of the victim's blood. The shadows can also transform the molecules of blood from other victims to match one they choose and make their soul completely bonded to them. Or at least, that is what I thought."
He paused to drink some of the coffee, and he made a disgusted face. He continued.
"I'm just guessing, but I think that the Mistress took over the King of Faltor and—" My heart stuttered to a stop. The shadows were the ones who destroyed Faltor?
I felt tears threatening to spill. We never tried to find who destroyed Faltor, as they never left a trace. Then I realized, if I felt like this, how would Kristin feel?
I ran towards Kristin, where I found a surprised Isalieus, Kristin with a neutral expression, and a broken cup with spilled coffee which was her's. She was acting as if it didn't want to make her destroy something.
But her eyes...
Her eyes looked hollow and lost all the life they once held, and instead held so much sorrow, anger and resentment with a hint of regret.
Then she looked at my face. The face that was covered in tears.
"Thank you for this information, messenger. You can now leave." She said with a voice filled with grief.
"Do you not understand??! I can't leave—" I stopped him by putting my hand on his shoulder. He looked at my face and his eyes widened, finally understanding.
"Oh..." He said, hanging his head low.
I decided that Kristin needed some time alone, and I could pry some more information from him.
"I thought you said you weren't a part of the Imperial Family of Voanerth. How did you wield that gun?" I asked, wiping my tears away.
"I'm not. The shadows have taken over all of the Imperial Family, even the distant relatives along with the important members of court. When the shadows take over, the victim becomes mentally dead, in some sort of a coma, and the programing makes the weapons reject the shadows." He said.
"Then how could the Empress, or the Mistress, wield the Oculus?" I asked.
"All the shadows have the same amount of power, except the Mistress. I think that is why she is called the Mistress, their leader, because she has more power." He said.
"Do you know what power that is?"
"To steal her victim's blood, which she can bond with, which meant she could be anybody's distant relative, and wielder of any of the Majestic Weapons. But she can only be bonded to one type of DNA, and she needs to have enough to use the Weapons." He paused, looking at me carefully, and then continued.
"As I said before, she only gets a molecule from each victim, no matter how long she controls them. So she somehow transforms the molecules into a type she chooses, and if she has enough, she can wield only one Weapon at a time." He said.
"How do you know all of this?" I asked.
"I am one of the lucky ones who can't be controlled. The shadows didn't know what to do with me and others like me, so they threw us in the dungeons. One of the inmates knew the language of the shadows, and he taught it to me. I was gifted with super hearing, so I heard their plans. Most of these are theories anyways." He said.
"That's really impressive." I said with a smile, which made him blush.
He cleared his throat. "Thank you. But I wanted to ask, is she going to be okay?"
"She has endured so much, because she thought the murderer of her- our planet died somehow, with the lack of any tracks. But she is strong, she will be fine in time." I said.
