Kristin Percxio/Kristin Parker
"AAAAAAAAHHH!" I yell out, effectively falling off my bed.
"WILL YOU SHUT UP! BREAKFAST'S READY!"
Ugh, Another nightmare. Same one too, which means that someone is trying to reach out to me.
Or I'm going crazy. Yeah, that seems more likely.
I quickly go to the shower and try to find a clean set of clothes while attempting not to trip in the chaos which somehow has formed all around the room. What happened here last night? How did I come to my bed?
"HAVE YOU DECIDED TO JOIN US KRISTINA?" Yelled Shawn, foster father interrupting my thoughts.
"I TOLD YOU, IT'S KRISTIN!" I yelled back. He still cannot get my name right, after 2 years. Which makes me wonder if he does it on purpose. At least the people at the orphanage got it right. Technically, most of my life was better at Faltor, the planet I was born and raised for 14 years. I guess I dug my own grave.
"It's 7:30 am honey, you need to go to school," say my foster Sister, the only person who is ever nice to me in the house. I mouthed a quick thank you and rushed to get my school-appropriate clothes and tame my bed hair. I quickly then take a burned toast reserved for me and don't even bother to say goodbye, since I learned that they never say it back. They also don't drive me to school, so I got a job earlier and bought a bike.
I quickly reached school and prepared my happy face, an art I had to perfect in this type of situation which is a typical normal day. This clearly justifies the fact that I may be going crazy. Rinnnnng! The bell, my greatest enemy. I'm going to be late. I ran to my science class, dropping a few things along the way yet reaching the class just before the second bell. And the teacher just went full 'blah blah' mode about stuff I already know because of my photographic memory, a skill all citizens of Faltor have.
A skill all citizens of Faltor had.
"I asked you a question Miss Parker, would you kindly bless us with your answer?" Asked Mrs. Winston while some students snickered.
"What was the question again?"
She repeated as she sighed a tad loudly then she needed to "What is the scientific method?"
Sighing, I recited everything written about the scientific method. After that, I heard quite a few grumbles and Mrs. Winston mumbling "Such a know-it-all" and prepared to go all 'blah blah' mode but we were all saved by the bell. Literally. The bell is sometimes my greatest enemy but is also my savior. Trying to avoid everybody, I bumped into someone. Looks like I failed at that task. Then looking up, I saw my extremely famous and chatty friend Natasha.
"OMG! Kristin! I was just running around trying to look for you and escaping a bunch of weird girls, but I then ran into you! OMG, I have so much to tell you! It is the BEST news ever! Better than when I finally got a selfie with you! Oh my god, I'm not even sure it's real! You kno—"
"Kristin are you ok?" She asked
Taken aback by her question, I just nodded.
"Hmm, not sure if I believe you and we will talk about this later BUT. Nothing, absolutely nothing can destroy my happy mood. Do you know the grumpy Math teacher? She is moving away! SHE IS MOVING AWAY!!! I am so happy—"
It took me quite a while to process everything she say since it seems to be like she has a sugar rush. She probably does, to be honest. After all her words set in my head, I just yelled "YESSSS!!!". She is finally going away! She was this grumpy teacher who used to give us such boring things to do, she made Mrs. Winston look like someone who just won a million dollars and ran around happy.
"Who is the teacher?!" I yelled
"No one knows, but they are NOT going to be worse than Mr. Carly."
"Well, we both have math last period, so we can meet the teacher then. Now, you must deal with Language Arts."
"NO! WHY! WHY MUST YOU BURST MY BUBBLE?!" She yelled at me and acted to faint.
"Please Kristin, help me, help me get out of this torture!" She wailed at me, but her voice reminded all the people I lost. Did I mention also that Natasha is a star student in the drama club?
I shoot a death glare her way and she immediately shut up. She may have a talent for drama, but I have a talent for glares. Most likely that it runs in the family.
It used to run in family.
Stop it, Kristin. They. Are. Gone. There is nothing you can do about it. I think to myself but the small voice in the back of my head is not gone yet, reminding me everything is my fault. I start walking through the noisy hallway and leave Natasha behind. The noise cancels out in my ears.
I miss them. All of them. I failed to save them.
"Oof. Sorry about that."
"No worries, I should anyways look the way I am going. Do you know where Room 38 is?" Asked the mysterious person.
"Um, sure. You can walk with me since that is right next to my class..." I look at him curiously, since he is way too kind, tall, and wearing way too nice clothes to be a student. He needs to go to the math room so...
"OH! You must be the new math teacher! What a coincidence I just happen to bump into—"
Rinnnnng!
"Great, I'm going to be late. Looks like you are going to be too." I say, mentally cursing the stubborn bell.
He chuckled "It's alright, you were late because of me. I will have you excused."
"Really! Thanks! Now I can take a sweet time going to class. Just kidding obviously. Come on Mr...?"
"Dr. John Williams."
"Well, we might have to hurry up if you don't want to be late on your first day Dr. Smith. My class is right next to Room 38."
We both sprinted to the other side of the school. My Art and Crafts teacher started to tap her shoes but before she could grill and embarrass me in front of the class, Mr. Smith came to my rescue and explained to Ms. Miller why I was late. She didn't look very happy probably because being evil to students is one of her hobbies. Nevertheless, she let me go to my seat without asking me any questions and continue her class. That is before she shot me a glare without Mr. Smith watching.
I have a feeling that I would like math a lot more than I did before.
