Smoke was billowing out from the roof of the school. Gabby tried running inside, but she was stopped.

"Let me in the there! My daughter and nephew are in there!"

"I'm sorry, but no one is allowed inside."

"I don't care what your rules are!"

"The fire is a small one, you need to relax."

"MOVE!"

He stood in place, ignoring her plead.

"I don't have time for this." She shoved past him and ran inside with the others.

They rushed everyone in that wing of the school out, and continued down the hall. Gabby and Peter headed upstairs, the others went into the bottom half of the wing.

"Fire department! Call out!" Peter yelled.

The hall was so smoke filled they could hardly breathe. Gabby started coughing and almost passed out.

"Put your mask on." Peter told her.

"Gee thanks, Mills. Why didn't I think of that?" She said sarcastically.

"Let's go."

She slapped him right before they headed down the hall. He tried opening a door, but it wouldn't budge. He used the full weight of his body to knock it down.

"MacKenzie!"

Her sweatshirt hood was covering her face and she was having a hard time breathing. He picked her up and brought her into the hallway.

"Mom!" MacKenzie ran into Gabby's arms.

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah I'm fine."

"Is there anyone else in that room with you?"

"It was just me. I came here to grab something for my earth science teacher. The next thing I knew, the place was on fire."

"Did you see how it started?"

"No. The room just started filling with smoke."

"It's coming from down that way." Peter pointed.

"I need you to get out of here. Here's a mask."

"I can't leave you guys in here. Where's dad?"

"He went down the hall with Hermann and Otis."

"Is Kelly outside?"

"He should be."

"Please be safe."

"I promise." Gabby kissed her head and sent her outside.

Sylvie and Xander helped her into the ambo to check her vitals.

"Who are you?" She asked him.

"I'm Xander. The new paramedic."

"Nice to meet you." She said as Sylvie was putting a mask over her face.

"You're going to be okay. Don't worry."

"Please promise that my parents will be okay."

"They've been in places like this before."

As Xander was taking her vitals, he asked her questions to help relax her.

"So your name's Kenzie, huh?"

"It's my nickname actually."

"That's pretty."

"Thank you." She half smiled.
