Without a word from anyone, they all raced into the garage and sped out. Boden was following closely behind in his truck. CPD had been called and were already on scene.
"Jesus christ...that's Darren's car!" Antonio refused to step forward, afraid of the horror he would behold.
Darren was being pulled out by the paramedics, the front of the car smashed. It took the jaws of life and a saw to get him free. He was laid on a backboard and was being felt for any signs of a heartbeat. Xander moved the stethoscope all around his chest and didn't hear a sound. He looked up at Sylvie and shook his head.
"This is Ambulance sixty one, requesting a second ambo at thirty third and main." She muttered into her radio.
"Back up ambo is on the way. Sit tight."
"What's the story with him?" Hank asked, looking down at Darren's body.
"There's no way he could've survived this."
"Shock him." Leslie said, stepping forward.
"He's dead. Look at him. He was hanging halfway out the windshield. He was all cut up and bloody, his stomach was pierced. There is nothing we can do."
"Move out of my way." She walked over and into the ambo.
"Get out of there! You aren't an EMT anymore!"
"I still have the certification. That didn't drop just because I switched jobs. Shut your mouth and get in here."
She huffed and helped Leslie out of the ambulance.
"Shocking."
Sylvie turned the dial to the normal rate and they shocked him.
"Turn the rate up. He's gotta be in there somewhere."
She turned the dial up higher and they shocked him once more. Leslie threw her stethoscope on the ground, and made a face of frustration. Xander looked up at her.
"He's gone."
"Dispatch, we have a DOA. Let Lakeshore know."
"Copy that."
A high pitched shriek came from behind them. They all whipped their heads around and saw Laura.
"Laura, what is it?" Antonio rushed to her side.
"It's-it's..."
"It's what?"
She looked over at the car. Diego's body was being lifted out. Sylvie leaned her head against his chest. "I've got a pulse and a heartbeat. Both are weak, we need to get him to the hospital now!"
The back up ambo pulled up a few minutes later. Xander turned to the two medics that came running out. "There's three victims in the back, not sure if they're breathing."
"We got you." The female said.
As they approached it, her first sight was a tanned skinned hand. She took a closer look and noticed a ring that had "Chicago Fire Department" engraved on it.
"You might wanna get over here."
Everyone came rushing over. She didn't have to say one word, they all knew what she was looking at.
"That's my daughter!" Gabby yelled, trying to rush to the car, but Matt held her back.
"Gabby, no. I'm not telling you again."
The jaws were used to pry off the top of the car. Mikayla, Terrance and Mackenzie all banged up in the backseat.
"Guys, can you hear me?" Matt asked.
