Xander drove as fast as he could, running red lights and zooming past crosswalks. Sylvie was clinging to Leslie's hands for dear life. Tears filled her eyes as she glanced up at the heart monitor.

"You can't die on us. You have to pull through, you just have to."

Her eyes remained shut as Sylvie continued to pump air from the pack. Leslie's shirt, vest and jacket had been cut to allow attention to the wound. Xander sprang out of the backseat when they arrived at the hospital. He helped Sylvie unload her as doctors came rushing out.

"What happened?"

"Gunshot wound to the chest."

"How bad's the bleeding?"

"She's lost a lot, but we got her stable. There's a pulse."

"We'll do what we can."

"I am begging you, don't let this woman die." Sylvie told them.

"We can't promise anything."

She sat there, her mouth open and not able to speak. Xander parked the ambulance and met up with Sylvie by the cafeteria.

"What was up with you and that doctor back there?"

"Did you ever hear of Julie Willhite?"

"I saw her line of duty death picture a couple times."

"When she was shot, he was the doctor that worked on her. I still think to this day, that he was slow on purpose because he wanted her to die."

"How long ago did she die?"

"Five years ago today. I went to summer camp with her up until we were too old to go anymore. That's when she went to the police academy and I went to EMT training."

"She sounds like a great person."

"She really was."

"I'm so sorry..."

"It wasn't your fault."

"I'm here if you need to talk."

She looked at him and tears started falling.

"Come here." He pulled her into a hug as she cried.

Sean came running in a little while later.

"Babe, is everything okay?" He asked her.

"They won't tell me anything. I'm not family."

"Megan and Kelly are on their way."

"What about her mother and father?"

"We've all been calling and calling, but no answer."

"I don't know what I'll do..."

Xander stepped back as Sean pulled her into another hug.

"It's gonna be fine." He whispered as he rubbed her back.

"Who are you?"

"Sylvie's fiancé."

"Nice to meet you."

"Likewise."

More hours passed and it was sundown before anything was heard. An intern came out to the waiting room.

"Is there a Megan Shay or a Kelly Severide here?"

They both stood up.

"She's awake and talking. She'll be on medication for a while to avoid lead poisoning, but she's fine."

"How long will she be off the job?" Kelly asked.

"Six to eight weeks. After two weeks of recovery, she's required to do physical therapy."

"Can we see her?"

"Yes, of course."

"Peter, check the name on the intern's name tag." Gabby nudged him.

He took a closer look. "Raelyn Mills, Certified Nursing Assistant."

"Remember when we were together in high school?"

"What are you trying to say?"

"Did I ever tell you I was pregnant?"

"Are you trying to tell me that that intern is our daughter?"

"I am."

"When were you gonna tell me about us having a daughter?"

"Your mother raised her."

"My sister is really my daughter?"

"Elise is your sister, Raelyn is your daughter."

"All these years I thought she was some adopted sister."

"She knows Jonah Halstead."

"She does?"

"Go talk to her."

"I'm gonna."

He went over to her. "Rae, could I talk to you for a minute?"

"Yeah sure, Pete. What's up?"

He took her into the conference room. "You've lived with me most of your life, right?"

"You're my brother. That's what mom's been telling me since I was a kid."

"I'm not your brother."

"Yeah you are."

"I know that's what mom told you, but it's not the truth."

"Then what is?"

"The truth is..." He took a deep breath and swallowed.

"Well?"

"I'm your father."

She stepped back, bumping into the wall. "What?-"

"You're not my sister. You're my daughter."

Peter's mom came in the room.

"Mom, is this true?" She looked at her.

She nodded.

"You mean all these years, my father was alive?"

"Henry Mills was your grandfather. Gabby was scared and didn't know where else to turn. She didn't want you in the foster care system, so she gave you to us."

"Gabby's my mom?"

"She is."

Gabby was waved into the room. She sat there, unable to speak as a lump formed into her throat.

"I thought you were my brother's girlfriend."

"I'm sorry no one told you sooner..."

"I don't blame you for not wanting to say anything about it."

"What do you want to do about it?"

"I'd like to get to know you both as my mother and father, not as my brother and his ex girlfriend."

"We're happy to hear that." Peter smiled. "So, how's school?"

"I'm in college over at USC for nursing."

"You don't sound too happy about it."

"It wasn't my first choice."

"You can always change your major you know."

"I really wanted to go into the fire academy, but mom. I mean grandma." She laughed. "Said it wasn't safe and didn't want me to do that."

"Why wouldn't you let her do that?"

"I didn't think it was safe. She would've been stuck with a bunch of guys in her class."

"Mrs. Mills, I was in a class full of guys. Except Rebecca, she was the only other girl. We did just fine."

"Gram, I don't wanna be a nurse. I wanna be a firefighter, I know I'll be a good one. Let me prove it to you."
