The first day of camp arrived, brining back many memories.
"Dad! Are you kidding me?! Camp?! Eight weeks?!"
"Mackenzie Elizabeth Casey, zip your trap and finish packing."
"This is a big load of crap."
"Suck it up. Your mother and I are paying good money for this. We don't care if you hate it, you're still going."
"No! This isn't fair!"
"Diego, Jonah, Hannah, Mikayla, Brayden and all them are gonna be there with you. It's not a big deal."
"It is a big deal when I won't have my iPhone for two whole months!"
"Deal with it. Two months worth of data charges that your mother and I won't have to pay."
"Real funny, dad." She said, rolling her eyes and slamming her suitcase shut.
A few streets over, Brayden was finishing his packing. His sister on the other hand, refused.
"Dad, I don't wanna go to camp."
"We already discussed this with your mother. You are going, end of discussion."
"But dad! That means eight weeks of being without my friends, eight weeks without TV, my computer..."
"It'll be nice for you to get a break from them."
"No it won't!"
"Your brother will be there with you."
"Oh yeah, that just makes me feel a whole lot better. NOT." She grabbed a book off her shelf and started reading it.
"Who knows, you just might end up meeting your future husband there. I know I did." Kim smirked as she quietly laughed to herself.
"And let me tell you this, your mother was the worst pain in my butt. She kicked me off the dock at the lake, she pushed me into the pool, threw a basketball in my face, brutal."
"Hey, only cause you deserved it." She gave a cocky smile as she began packing stationary for the kids.
"How come Ashley doesn't have to go?"
"Hannah, we've been over this. She's four and you have to be at least ten years old to attend."
"You're killing me here, mom. You really are."
"You'll have fun. Look how excited your brother is about it."
"Well that's cause he has no friends."
"Hey! I have friends too! At least mine are cool."
"Shut up and go play with your dolls, Brayden."
"They're NOT dolls! They're action figures!"
"Adam, these kids are driving me crazy. Absolutely crazy."
Kim picked up the packed duffel bags and suitcases, throwing them in the back of the van.
"Hey guys, let's go!"
Brayden went flying out the door. Ashley was running behind him. Hannah locked herself in her room, refusing to come out.
"Hannah Mae Ruzek, you better open this door right now!"
"No, dad! I won't!"
"You are going to camp and that's the end of it. Let's go. Your mother's waiting."
"She can go to camp for me!"
"Nice try, kiddo. She did that twenty seven years ago."
She opened the door partway, so only half her face showed.
