"What about Dani?"

"Daniela's was soon after," Cassandra giggled. "When you let her feel Costin kick."

"Oh, I remember that," I laughed. "Is that why she wanted me to take another break?"

"It is — plus, you were heavily pregnant and needed a break. Daniela said it solidified that her feelings were genuine."

POV: Daniela

Three Months Ago

"Hey, Isa, can I ask you a question?" I hummed as they handed me a book.

"Of course, my-."

"Daniela."

"Of course, Daniela."

I cleared my throat before letting my gaze drop to their stomach. "...Can I feel?"

Isa giggled and sat next to me. "Absolutely."

"E-even though my hand is-?" I cut myself off when they began removing my gloves.

"Your touch will be more than welcomed," They laughed. "I didn't realize how much my body temperature would increase due to this."

"Is that why you're always next to Cass?" I teased when Isa placed my hand on their stomach. "Wow, you're really warm — warmer than when you first arrived."

"Partially," Isa giggled, placing their hands over mine when the baby kicked. "They have a power similar to mine it looks like. And, like me, they seem to like the coolness of your family."

"You like our coolness?"

"Mhm. Makes me feel normal — the only time I felt like this before was- Never mind."

"...You can tell me — unless it's too difficult to talk about?"

"My ex," Isa sighed, a mix of love and pain flashing in their eyes. "She was a witch too, so she used a spell that made her body feel cool to the touch for me. That was before her father found out who my grandfather was — that was a different time."

"...You still love her?" I whispered, rubbing circles on their stomach.

"I love the memories, but I could never love who she became. The people she hurt and killed — they were my family, my friends, people I promised to protect. She made me break my promises."

I hesitantly kissed their cheek, shuddering when I felt a tear roll down their skin. 'They got warmer,' I smiled at the thought and focused on Isa's stomach, humming to myself as they relaxed. 'It's been a while since they took a break, too. Whether they admit it or not, Isa's probably happy they're sitting down.' Isa sighed contently when I lifted their shirt, letting my palm touch their skin.

My smile widened when the baby kicked again, making me lean down and kiss Isa's stomach. The demigod sucked in a sharp breath, causing me to freeze and look up. Their cheeks appeared to glow as they looked away, a smile stretching on Isa's face. Dimples appeared despite their attempt to hide the smile, causing a small dip in their scar. '...I wonder how they'd react if I kissed along it. No, I can't do that to Cass.'

'Admiring isn't illegal, however,' I kissed Isa's stomach again when the baby kicked, giggling at the slight kick that followed. 'I guess the baby wants the same attention I'm giving its parent.' When I sat up, I moved Isa's face back to me, smiling at them while brushing a thumb over their cheekbone. 'Their eyes do have green in them.'

"...You have pretty eyes."

Isa looked away before locking eyes with me again. "Says the woman with gold eyes."

I giggled and booped their nose. "Flattery will get you everywhere."

"...What makes my eyes so pretty?"

"A lot," I hummed before cupping their cheeks. "In the right light, they look like pools of honey — or better yet, amber. Just now, I noticed the green in your eyes."

Isa's eyes brightened at the information. "It's there?! M-more noticeable?!"

"Mhm! Around the iris."

"That's the best news I got all day!"

I smiled at their beaming smile. "Does it help you feel closer to your step- ...mother?"

"Yes," Isa hummed and chuckled at my hesitation. "And yes, 'mother' is the term for her. She hates when people call her my stepmother."

"I'll make sure everyone knows that so she isn't called that."

"A wise choice. I should get back to-."

"You should keep resting! You're pregnant and only took one break today! It's nearly dinner!"

"Exactly. I need to start dinner."

"Hunter can make dinner," I huffed, keeping them in place. "Rest. I'll read to you."

An exasperated sigh left the demigod as Isa's eyes filled with gratitude. "You're not giving me much of a choice."

"No, no, I'm not."

Present

First-Person POV

"Oh, that's when," I giggled as Cassandra traced a scar on my shoulder. "That's from Artemis."

"What happened?"

"...I pissed her off."

Cassandra giggled and began washing my body, tapping the scar when she reached it again. "I expect a story."

"Not much to tell, sadly. I caught her on a bad day; she threatened to shoot me if I didn't shut up, and when I spoke again, Artemis shot me."

"...You're messing with me."

"Swear on my mom," I laughed when Cassandra began rinsing my body. "Artemis apologized when she calmed down, but all I did was laugh."

"How'd she take that?" Cassandra asked while helping me stand and step out of the bath.

"Asked me why I was laughing — when I told her, she laughed too. We agreed to tell the story as dramatically as possible, but I couldn't lie to you."

Cassandra smiled as she handed me a towel, a low purr leaving her in the process. I dried myself off, letting her leave the bathroom so I could get dressed. Once dressed, I left the bathroom and grabbed Cassandra's hand, thanking Hunter for taking Costin. 'I don't think she heard me,' I smirked at Cassandra when Hunter didn't look up or respond, even as we left the room. 'I've never seen someone so happy to be a parent — maybe ten hours of labor was worth it.'

The vampire swung our hands gently after shutting the door and walking me down the hall, humming a tune I had only ever heard in the castle. 'Come to think of it, it's usually only the ladies that hum the tune. I should ask about it later.' After we were a reasonable distance from the room I was in, Cassandra stopped and faced me, making me do the same.

"...Can I teach you something?"

"Sure," I shrugged with a smile. "What did you have in mind?"

Cassandra's smile widened before she answered. "How to draw? I-I remember Hunter saying you couldn't-."

"So you want to help me? Is that the only reason-?"

Cassandra giggled before she pulled me close and turned me around, ghosting her fingers down my arm until her hand covered mine, her lips brushing against the shell of my ear. '...Fuck me-.'

"It's not the only reason."
