"That's good," I sighed until Isa's face contorted into pain. 'Another nightmare....'

Isa's eyes flew open — their sclera black instead of white and their irises a bright red color. "Where's my son?"

"Right here," Daniela squeaked when Isa's head snapped toward her. "He's asleep."

"Isa," I whispered and slid my hand along their jaw, trying to stop them from sitting up. "He's fine. What's wrong?"

"Give him here."

Daniela nodded slowly before carefully picking up the newborn and moving toward the bed slowly. Once she was beside the bed, Isa took Costin from her — causing their eyes to return to normal. I sat up while rubbing circles on their back, watching their shoulders relax. A few moments later, Costin's eyes opened, and Isa brushed their thumb over his cheek.

"Sorry if I worried you, my ladies," They whispered before shifting their gown to feed Costin. "I don't know what that was, but I knew he would be hungry. Guess it has something to do with the gods — I'll ask my Mother later."

Daniela let out a relieved sigh and ran her fingers through Isa's hair. "It's okay — we just weren't sure if something seriously wrong happened. Your eyes have never done that before. The sclera was black."

"...That so? I'll be sure to mention that as well."

"We're just glad everything's alright. Are you hungry? We wouldn't mind making you something to eat."

"That would be nice, thank you. Anything you make, I'll eat. I'm not that picky."

Bela giggled and made her way to the door. "Then we'll make something quick and maybe a little sweet snack."

"It's been a while since I allowed myself something sweet..."

"Then we'll make you something sweet too!" Daniela giggled. "Cass, keep an eye on them until we get back."

"I will. Now, go."

POV: Isa

Ladies Bela and Daniela left shortly after that, letting me drop my gaze to Costin. "Cass... Do you want to burp him? Hold him?"

"Oh, uhm, su-sure," Cassandra muttered, waiting for me to hand him to her. "How-?"

I giggled and helped her hold him, placing a cloth over her shoulder. "There you go."

'She's hesitant, but she's still willing to try. That's all that matters to me,' I smiled as I watched her pat Costin's back. 'Hopefully, I don't screw this up.' Once Cassandra returned him to me, I kissed her cheek and held Costin close to my chest. Cassandra wrapped an arm around my waist and let me lean against her, placing a kiss on my head. My eyes landed on Costin as his struggled to stay open, making a smile twitch onto my face. 'Just go back to sleep, kid.'

Cassandra began to hum softly, her other hand brushing against Costin's cheek. Not long after she started humming, Costin fell asleep again, earning a relieved sigh from me. 'At least getting him back to sleep is easy for now. It won't always be this easy.' Cassandra leaned down and kissed his forehead before she stopped humming, a kind smile on her face. My heart skipped a beat when she looked at me with the same smile a moment later, noticing the loving look in her eyes.

"I have something to ask you," Cassandra whispered as we leaned against the headboard. "And... Stop me if you think it sounds like a weird idea, alright?"
