'...Back to the States?!' I tightened my grip on Costin before shaking my head. "I can't be that far from my son."
One Week Later
'Finally,' I dropped my bag and collapsed onto my bed, my entire body aching from the mission Miranda sent me on. 'I still can't believe she convinced me to go.'
"Do you want to shower and sleep, or shower and cuddle your son and me?" Cassandra giggled when I lifted my head.
"I'll be back," I grinned and pecked her lips, kissing Costin's forehead as he cooed. "I missed you too, baby boy."
"Getting him to sleep without you here was a challenge."
"I'm sorry, Αγάπη."
"...You're forgiven."
"Because I spoke Greek?"
"It's adorable when you do," Cassandra giggled. "If he starts whining, I'll join you in the bathroom."
"Or, you can join me after I get in," I suggested, letting Costin squeeze my finger. "I don't think our little prince will be happy waiting for me."
"Hm, probably right," She hummed as I moved away. "I'll join you now then. Come on, Costin, let's join Mama."
Costin cooed louder with a smile, prompting Cassandra and me to awe him before we headed to the bathroom. I started my water and began undressing, letting out a sigh of relief when my bones cracked after I was naked. I stepped into the shower and closed my eyes, letting the warm water run over my skin. 'Much better.' It wasn't long until Cassandra began humming to Costin, bringing a smile to my face as I listened to him coo. 'I love it when the girls make him coo or laugh, it warms my heart.'
I didn't take long in the shower, thanking Cassandra when she handed me a towel. Before she left the bathroom, I kissed Cassandra's cheek and muttered that I'd be out in a second, kissing Costin's head once more. The vampire carried him back to our room, prompting me to get out and dry off before getting dressed in something loose. 'Finally, I don't have to wear my binder for a few days.' When I joined them in our room, I happily settled on the bed, smiling when Cassandra put Costin between us.
"See, they're right here," She giggled when Costin's fussing stopped. "Mama's back."
"Oh, I'm sorry, baby," I cooed before peppering his face with kisses. "I promise I won't leave for that long again for a long time. He's going to forget it in the morning."
"He always did — then he'd realize you were gone and start crying."
"My poor baby."
"I missed you too, you know?"
I giggled and pecked her lips, letting Cassandra hold my hand. "I know, and I missed you too. Did she tell you I was expected to return today?"
"Mhm. She didn't say why you were gone for so long though."
"She wanted to make it look convincing, so I had to travel as a human would. I'm just glad I'll never have to do that again. I hate recon missions like that, they make me feel dirty."
"Lying?"
"To someone that's not an enemy? Absolutely. It makes me sick to my stomach."
Cassandra giggled before squeezing my hand. "You're adorable, you know that? Your face scrunches up when you talk about that, and you look so cute."
I stared in shock before Costin burst into giggles, making me look down at him in mock offense. "You're not supposed to side with her — I birthed you."
"And I cuddled him every morning he cried for you."
"And I thank you for that. Honestly, Miranda's just lucky that your Mother somehow convinced me to hear her out."
"She is, I promise. Mother Miranda said that she'd give you a day to rest in the castle before asking for a report."
"She wasn't going to get one right away anyway," I snorted before picking up Costin and lowering him for a kiss, giggling with him. "I missed our not-so-little family."
Cassandra scooted closer to me, kissing Costin's cheek before I sat him on my stomach. "Careful, or you'll never get rid of us."
"That was never my plan."
"Oh? And what is your plan?"
"To raise him with all of you," I admitted and turned my head to face her. "Love you all as equally as one can, and hopefully gain immortality for me, Hunter, and Costin, so we never have to leave your family."
Cassandra's smile widened as a happy purr left her. "Eternity with us? Careful, you'll make Dani's heart jumpstart if you tell her that."
Costin began babbling at us, gaining our attention as he giggled. "Oh, I'm sorry, do you want attention, little Prince?"
His giggles grew before Cassandra sat up and peppered him in kisses, pulling a squeal out of him. "Haven't I given you enough love and attention this week?"
"It's never enough for our spoiled son."
"We only have ourselves to blame."
After Cassandra finished, she handed him back to me and grabbed her sketchbook, prompting me to sit up and hold Costin close. I watched as she began sketching, pulling Costin's attention to what she was doing as well. 'Someone's curious,' I smiled when he tried to lean forward, making me gently push him back into place each time. 'I think he's having fun with this now.' Cassandra giggled and readjusted, letting Costin get a better view of what she was working on.
The vampire was sketching Costin and Hunter — Hunter asleep with the boy asleep on her chest — while I whispered to Costin what was happening. 'He can't understand this, but it makes him happy when we talk to him.' I nuzzled against his cheek before going back to watching Cassandra in awe, smiling at the other sketch on the page. 'Has she been sketching me while I was away? That's adorable. I wonder how the others have handled me being gone... I'll see them all after a good nap.'
Before I knew it, Cassandra had finished the sketch and was showing it to Costin, pointing at it while explaining who the people were. He cooed when she mentioned Hunter — or 'Mommy' as she called her for him. The vampire glanced my way before shutting her sketchbook and taking Costin from me.
"Lie down, baby. You look ready to drop."
I sleepily smiled before lying down, waiting for her and Costin to join me. "Good night, Αγάπη."
"Good night, Dragul meu."
