Chapter 54

I woke up on a bed in a painfully white room. A couple tubes were attached to me. I noticed that my leg had been wrapped and my hands were bruised all over.

Then I noticed someone on the far side of me.

"Oh you're awake. Good good."

It was young, male doctor.

"Am I ok?" I asked him.

He nodded and smiled, "You'll be fine. Just try and stay off your feet. I'll be back soon. Merry Christmas." He said writing something on my charts as he walked away.

It was Christmas?!

Soon Angie came in with two hot chocolates.

"Merry Christmas!" She kissed my cheek.

"It's Christmas?"

"Yeah. Are you ok?"

"Yeah, what about Kaden?" I asked.

I didn't know if Kaden wanted her to know about his real name.

She smirked at me, "Well "Kaden" isn't here."

She emphasized Kaden with her hands.

"What do you mean?"

"He's in the hospital as Shane. Is there something I should know?" She crossed her arms.

I sighed. I hadn't told her everything yesterday. I told her everything that had happened from when I got the text message to when I saw her.

"Wow. So he's The Shane?" Angie asked.

I nodded slowly.

"So are you gonna leave him?" She asked.

I shrugged, "I need to talk to him."

"But you're not allowed to leave.."

I gave her a look.

"But you don't care. Gotcha." She said standing up as I pulled the tubes off of my arm..

"I was never here." She said backing away.

I slowly got onto my feet. I almost fell but I grabbed the chair for support. I hobbled out to the reception area. I straightened myself up.

I walked over to the nurse hoping I didn't look to weird.

"Hi is there a Kaden--I mean Shane here?" I asked.

"Yes, what's your relation?"

"I'm umm his sister." I lied.

"Oh ok. He might still be asleep but he's in room 308."

I thanked her and tried to walk normally but when I was out of her sight I doubled over in pain. I hated Ren.

304...306...308. I opened the door slightly and slipped inside. Kaden was laying down in bed and his shoulder and leg was being wrapped.

There was a nurse by his side checking his monitors. She saw me and smiled sadly.

"Is he going to be ok?" I asked.

"We aren't sure yet. The bullet just barely missed his heart. He hasn't woken up yet but he can still hear you." She walked past me and gave me one last sympathetic look before leaving us alone.

I hobbled over to his bedside. He looked so...vulnerable. I pushed his hair out of his eyes. A tear fell onto his cheek.

"Hi Kaden." I said.

I laughed bitterly, "Or should I call you Shane?"

The laughs turned into weeps. I punched his chest softly.

"Why didn't you just tell me!" I yelled at him.

I probably looked stupid yelling at an unconscious person.

"I can't believe I love you."

I rested my head on his chest as I cried silently.

I heard the door open.

"Ma'am, you have to leave now. We have to check his rates again."

"Ok." I said.

"I'll be back in a minute." I couldn't see her but I knew she had another sad smile on her face.

I stood up straight and wiped my eyes.

"Bye Shane." I whispered and kissed him on the cheek.

I started to walk away but someone touched my arm. I turned around to see him smirking at me.

"So you love me, huh?" He asked.

I rolled my eyes and tried to stop the smile from creeping onto my face. But I forced my face to stay neutral.

His smirk slowly dissolved.

"I'm so sorry. For everything." He said.

I didn't say anything for a couple moments.

"Why did you do it?" I asked, my eyes watering.

He sighed, "To protect you. I guess it didn't really help in the long run."

I glared at him.

"Oh I forgot. Can you go in my back pocket?" He asked.

I gave him a weird look.

"Just do it."

I sighed and reached into his back pocket.

"Wait, close your eyes." He said.

I closed my eyes and gave whatever he wanted to him.

"Keep them closed." He said.

Soon I felt something cold go around my wrist.

"Open them."

I opened it and there was a beautiful braclet on my hand that had small iris colored jewels on it. I jingled it and it flipped it over.

He had engraved both of our names on it. It was beautiful. A tear leaked out of my eye.

"Thank you."

"I'm sorry." He said quietly.

"It's ok. But are you ok?"

"Yeah, ya know because getting shot is so easy to fix." He said sarcastically.

It was amazing how he could go from serious to joking so fast.

"For your information I got shot to."

"Really?" He said, his face full of worry.

I shifted, "Ok maybe it only grazed my leg but still."

"Wuss." He sing songed.

I punched his regular shoulder and he laughed.

"I find it hilarious how you still find the time to hurt me, even though I've already been hurt."

"Well ya know." I smiled at him.

He pulled me closer to him until our lips were almost touching.

"I love you." He whispered.

I shifted again, "Love you too."

I leaned down and kissed him.

"Alright time to--oh my." I turned around and it was the receptionist I told that I was Kaden's sister.

She loomed shocked and backed out quickly.

"That was weird." Kaden said.

"Well I kinda said I was your sister so yeah."

Kaden laughed and pulled me in for another kiss. I glanced at the braclet.
