Chapter 30 – Jin Jie, the Defensive Shrew Part 1

Winter seemed to have come earlier this year.

After a few light rains in late autumn, it became cold overnight.

Zu Jin dreaded the cold. When she went out in the morning, she wore very thick clothes. She looked completely out of season with the people around her.

There was only two weeks left before Xishui was going to be listed in the stock market. Zu Jin was so busy recently that she almost wished she could sleep in the office.

However, since the murderers of Ji Shiyu and Bai Qing had not been found, it was not safe to sleep outside at night. Sometimes she still had bodyguards follow her to the doorsteps of her home even if she finished her work at two or three o’clock in the morning.

Zu Jin’s right eyelid kept twitching this morning. It was probably because she was busy with the company going public. She was more superstitious these days, and she often had a bad premonition on her mind. But as time passed, nothing actually happened.

Thus, she began to feel restless when she got up early. She had a feeling that something difficult was going to happen to Xishui when she went to work today.

When she got ready to leave, she even forgot to kiss Zu Xiaofei.

This was the first time it had happened.

Zu Xiaofei watched her leave in a hurry and blinked as she stared at the door. She thought for a long time before she finally realized what was wrong.

She pouted her delicate lips and looked at her father unhappily. She said, “Hmph! Mommy didn’t kiss me!”

Yan Lin smiled and replied, “Mommy is too busy and forgot today. She will make it up to you tomorrow.”

However, the little girl was still very sad. She became absent-minded and listless like a little flower without water…

As expected, Zu Jin suddenly received a phone call from Yan Lin in the afternoon.

Usually, Yan Lin rarely disturbed her at work even if he was not busy.

Zu Jin tensed up and answered the call at once. Yan Lin said that his father had suddenly been hospitalized. He was going to the hospital first to let her finish her work.

Zu Jin looked spooked when she hung up. To tell the truth, she was not that concerned or worried about Yan Lin’s father falling ill and being hospitalized.

In her mind, Yan Lin’s father was a scum that was no different from the scum who abandoned her mother. It was common for people to get sick when they’re old. In any case, it could be inferred from Yan Lin’s tone that it was not that serious.

However, because of Yan Lin’s dignity, she had to go there.

Zu Jin pushed back all the work she could push and took the car to the hospital.

By the time she arrived, Father Yan had finished the physical examination. The doctor said it was nothing serious, he just fainted for a moment. He needed to rest properly in the future, and he must not be overwhelmed with emotions.

At this time, there were many members from the Yan Group and close relatives in the ward. Every single one of them were very worried.

Zu Jin looked at them and immediately thought that she was not worried enough. She frowned a little harder at once.

After staying in the ward for more than an hour, it was almost time to go.

Zu Jin let out a sigh. She went to the sofa on the side and sat down.

“Father is in good health, so why did he suddenly faint?”

Yan Lin was standing by the window on a phone call with someone. It could be assumed that the question was for Father Yan.

Father Yan was lying on the hospital bed. When she asked the question, he immediately snorted angrily, “Raising a tiger will lead to disasters! He doesn’t know his own strength, but wants to take over my control! How could I raise such a son?”

Zu Jin forced a hollow chuckle. She didn’t have to think about it to know who Father Yan was talking about was definitely not Yan Lin.

Yan Lin did not care for the Yan Group at all. How could he be idle enough to be a part of something so troublesome?

So who Father Yan spoke of could only be his other son.

Mother Yan was sitting next to Zu Jin and was calmly peeling an apple. However, she spoke out upon hearing Father Yan’s words.

“Oh, so now you only realize what you’ve raised? What were you doing earlier? If you didn’t give him the first push, then how could he dare to think about it?”

Father Yan glared at her and snapped, “You want to make me faint, too, don’t you?”

Zu Jin thought it was very refreshing to see the “model couple” quarreling for the first time.

But she couldn’t just watch them fight, so she pretended to give a few words of advice, and they finally stopped.

After a moment of silence in the ward, the real protagonist of the storm finally appeared on the stage.

Yan Yuelin appeared like a prodigal son surrounded by flowers.

He wore a gold necklace around his neck, wore a loose white casual suit, and his hair was shiny. If Zu Jin didn’t know it was him, then she would have thought he was a gangster in a movie for a second.

Father Yan’s complexion turned pale when he saw him coming.

“You still dare to come and see me?! Get out of here!”

Yan Yuelin came in with a grin, grabbed a chair and sat down directly next to Father Yan.

“Father, I was really worried to death just now. I was afraid something would happen to you, so I got here in a hurry. But I was caught up in a traffic jam and arrived a little late.”

Father Yan did not respond, but Mother Yan coldly said, “Yuelin, if you don’t come, he can actually get better faster.”

Yan Yuelin didn’t seem to hear the meaning of this remark. “Oh, why? My father is sick and you don’t want me to come and see him. Aunt Chen, you can’t do that!”

Zu Jin was quite anxious as she watched on the sidelines. Mother Yan’s ability to deal with him was not too great.

She thought that a rich and powerful woman like her would have a clever tongue.

“Yuelin, what did you say to your father? You made the old man so angry that he is in hospital. That’s something an ordinary person can’t do. I have found a new level of respect for you.”

Yan Yuelin’s smile was delayed for a moment. “What I said? Father, what did I say?”

Unexpectedly, he asked this question to Father Yan. When he usually did something wrong, Father Yan would take care of it for him.

Zu Jin could not help but get more annoyed.
