A long time ago we planted a tree.
A plum tree of beautiful green
She grew and grew, as tall as can be
Oh how I wish you could see
People from all around came to admire
Her shining white blossoms they do aspire
To glow in the sunlight before they expire
Although nothing really seemed that dire
See her bright branches sway in the wind.
She would help the parents take care of their kids.
The best role model in all of the land
She'd always be there with a helping hand
And when when she bore fruits of love they would run
They would say she had too much 'fun'
Her 'fruit' would rot, so they were done
Even though he was a loaded gun
They shun, they shun, they shunned
So she gave her love to you and me
And from the fruit came many seeds
They fell and grew, arose from the dirt
She helped all those the others had hurt
She fed the hungry and the poor
For less fortunate she'd open her door
That beautiful tree would bloom once a year
And those around her had nothing to fear
She'd give and protect everyone
To those around she was the sun
She lost her battle but won the war
She'd live forever that's what we swore.
She planted the seeds
We've grown into trees
And now it's up to you and me
That plum tree changed the smell of her town.
You can smell the love for miles around.
