He walked home with a new sense of hope, he figured, if he just told them the truth, surely they would let him go out with some friends, he never asked for much, so they couldn't deny him.
Entering the house a foul odor immediately caught his attention. His father lay on the living room couch passed out, clearly not having showered in days. Many bottles lay on the sofa, the table and the floor. Trying to ignore the sight he carefully walked around the large drunk man and made his way to his parents bedroom, there he gently opens the door.
Shutting the door behind him he carefully examined the room. It was drab but neat, no clothes on the floor, bed was well kept and it smelled much nicer in here, she must've sprayed something... a light coming from just around the corner accompanied by some light humming caught his attention. It was his mother.
He walks around the corner to his his mom doing her makeup in front of a mirror seemingly not noticing him until he speaks up.
"M-Mom?" He says nervously.
"Hm? Oh it's you Dustin." She turns around, just finishing curling her chocolate brown hair, her eye's a beautiful gray color, one thing he inherited from his mother. Her kind demeanor was comforting to be around and provided a welcome environment for Dustin to be.
"So what do you need?" She questions calmly
"I was wondering if I could um go hang out with some friends sometime, and it's ok if you say no but I just wanted to know." Dustin says carefully
"Well of course you can dear, I'm so glad you were able to make some friends!" His mom says cheerfully as she pulls him in for a hug
"Thank you mom. I appreciate it." Dustin says
"Alright now go ahead in your room before your father wakes up, you know how he is." She says with caution
"Ok."
Just before he opened the door she grabs his attention.
"One more thing honey." She says
"Yeah?" Dustin says
"I love you :)"
"I love you too mom."
-Later that day-
Dustin sat in his room playing on his console, when he suddenly heard a loud slam, Oh no. He thought to himself. He took his headset off and opened his door to the sound of his father yelling at his mother in the kitchen.
"You stupid BITCH! Who the hell gave you permission to do that?!" The large man yelled at her
"Look honey, I understand where your coming from but I think we should simply allow him to have some friends, what's the harm in that?"
"The harm?! Are you kidding me? That failure of a boy will never have anyone to call a friend. He's worthless." He croaked out those words with such venom Dustin felt like he'd been poisoned
"Emanuel!" She yelled at him before slapping him in the face.
"If anyone here is a failure it's you, you should know better as a father than to talk about your own child that way." She stated with strong conviction
"Ha! Please, I think we both know he's failed us in every category of his life, no friends, no girlfriend, he's already in high school, he should have had these things done a while ago, and look at him now. Pathetic."
His words sting like venom, Dustin couldn't believe his own father thought so little of him, it pissed him off but he knew he couldn't do anything about it, his father was stronger than him despite being such a lazy man.
"You know you only say these things because it reminds you of yourself when you were younger."
Those words struck a chord with Emanuel and he was pissed, he slapped her so hard she fell back into the counter behind them and let out a cry of pain.
"You stupid whore, I'm going out for a drink, dinner better be done when I get back."
After Dustin heard the door close he went to go check on his mother, he found her crying on the kitchen floor.
"Mom!" He said panicking "Mom are you ok?! D-Did he hit you?!"
"Oh come now Dustin.. there's no need to worry, I'm fine." She tried putting on a brave face but he saw right through it.
"Mom, he's always like this, I-...I know things aren't alright with you and him." Dustin says sadly
"Look Dustin, I know he's... a lot and well, everything about him but I can't do anything right now, If I could I would leave and take custody with me but as it stands right now I can't."
She took a deep breath before continuing and wiping her tears.
"Listen, I know you heard what he said about you. I want you to know he doesn't know what he's talking about, your the most brave, kind, and understanding person I know, and the best son I could ask for. You're going to do great things in your life, I know that you're destined for greatness, I can feel it, so if you ever have someone saying you can't do what you want or that you don't deserve it, then screw them!"
"..."
His mothers speech left him speechless, he couldn't say a single word and so he just cried, they sat there for a while as they embraced one another and cried who knows how long they sat there for.
After they finished crying Dustin helped his mother get up and they both cooked dinner for themselves.
"So, you wanna talk to me about your friends?" She asks kindly
"Sure!" Dustin exclaims.
Fun fact: Dustin plays video games, watches anime and reads manga, his favorites are jjk and bleach.
