"Stop falling in love with everything that lets you down."

What are memories?
When where they first studied?
Who thought to name them that? How does our brain choose which ones to keep, and which ones to bury? Why are some memories deemed less important than others?
How is it possible that our minds actually bury a memory, in order for it not to hurt us anymore?
Are we aware that we're missing these memories?
"Okay, okay." Mina laughs, spilling some of her drink on the table, as she clumsily picks up her glass. "Favorite memory. Go." she points to no one in particular.
I bite my lip, to prevent it from curving downwards, and discreetly examine her.
Showing up without Edward on her side like usual, she has been gulping down shot after shot, avoiding mine and Ally's worried stares.
When asked about her boyfriend, I caught some emotion shifting behind her eyes, but is was fleeting, I didn't have enough time to decipher what it was.
Calum asked jokingly if they've been having troubles in paradise, to which she just let out a placid smile, dismissing him with a roll of her eyes.
No matter how serene she tries to come across tonight, her alcohol consumption is giving her away, perhaps not to everyone, but Ally is already suspicious, much like myself.
I can tell, because she keeps on stealing discreet glances at her every now and then, or whenever she grabs a new glass filled with booze.
"Cal?" Mina prompts, but Calum sighs in dismay.
I look at him amused- he clearly doesn't want to reminisce at this moment.
Luke shares my entertainment, his eyes locked in on his best friend's figure.
I linger my stare on him for some moments longer, feeling as my insides turn into a knot at the sight of the healing bruise on his face, curtesy of my nightmare of an ex-boyfriend.
That night is fading in time, but it will be imprinted on my mind for a while to come.
The fact that Ian has now left his mark on one of my friends as well, is making my blood boil and freeze over in panic at the same time.
Luke assured me he is leaving it behind him, but the glint in his eyes each time someone asks if the bruise hurts, tells me he would have very much liked to have left a similar one on Ian.
My heart trembles at the thought.
"Okay, fine." Calum sighs and I put an end to my disturbing thoughts. "My favorite memory is probably from when I was at camp. I was fourteen. I had a crush on this girl for a fucking eternity. One night, we were playing games in teams, and she picked my name from the ballot.
It was a treasure hunt, pretty lame, but anyway. We were looking for a clue near the library, when the lights went out and we decided to give up. We sat in between the isles and we talked for like two hours. About everything that came to mind.
When the lights came back up, she kissed my cheek. She had the biggest blush on afterwards.
There. That's my favorite memory and no one is allowed to make fun of it." he exhales and I chuckle.
"That's adorable." I tell him and he shrugs, indifferent to that event now that he's an adult.
"Slo?" Mina passes the imaginary torch to me.
