Moving to Japan with your young TV host boyfriend seemed like an exciting, adventurous idea, and you were over the roof happy and giddy when the two of you planned your new life together, when you boarded the plane, when you stepped foot on the Narita airport, and finally squealed to your heart's content, hugging him tightly when you pushed your suitcases in the small yet cozy apartment in Shibuya. Seeing his results in Korea, the company provided the apartment as they madly demanded that Chan move abroad and work for their Japanese TV branch. Only a fool would decline.
As said, the apartment was small and cozy, and the two of you used all its benefits, but right now, it felt cramped, sad, and too silent. Despite the festive music show playing from the TV in the corner and the red and white outfit you put together, you weren't feeling like celebrating. Chan was, for an unknown time this month, working overtime.
You, of course, knew that, but you hoped his boss would go easy on the employees this time. It was Christmas night, for God's sake! After all, the boss of the pastry shop you worked part-time for let you and a few of your colleagues off the hook. Yeah, you were dead tired for the past week, but you finished all scheduled Christmas orders in time, and the drivers were currently delivering them.
Grumpiness wasn't leaving your face and chest, your leg beginning to shake restlessly as you "watched" Chan's Christmas show. You already cleaned the apartment and made tons of food to pass the time and shift your mind away from missing Chan, but... you just couldn't help but miss him. Despite seeing his smiley face on the TV as he hosted the popular Christmas show and handed over the presents to the audience, you wanted him on this couch, next to you.
It was already 8 pm...
The sleeves of your white, fuzzy, Christmas sweater were already so stretched because of the said grumpiness, resembling a straight jacket, but you roll the sleeves up and hop off the sofa, too on edge to stay alone in this small closed place.
After putting the food back in the fridge, you take your red winter coat, and faux-fur white winter hat Chan gifted you last year, swing the white scarf around your neck, and complete your look with black leather boots.
Locking the door, you rush down the stairs and into a busy street bustling with people, already feeling refreshed as the cold air fills your nose. The surrounding noise of people and music was better than the loneliness of the apartment.
Shibuya, as a huge youth-oriented shopping district with great restaurants, bars, and hotels, hosted millions on December 25th. From tourists to couples, the neon-painted environment was full of people going everywhere and the busiest were definitely restaurants, filled with couples celebrating a romantic Christmas, and the market where people streamed around, buying last-minute presents.
But Shibuya isn't your escape for the night. Chan and you planned, ever since the announcement came out, that you'd visit Tokyo Tower Winter Fantasy in the tower's plaza in front of the main entrance of the first floor. But he is busy with his program and the event will end soon.
Taking the train, you were at the tower fast and, once again, surrounded by happiness and love. Christmas lights and decorations are all around you and the overall feeling, mixed with laughter and soft music, brings tears to your eyes.
You are supposed to spend this night with Chan yet he is swamped with work, probably in the monitor room with his face "glued" to the computer screen.
It is snowing outside and it is perfectly romantic. But the sadness in your heart piles up like this snow, making it hard for you to feel the warmth of the holiday.
Not wanting to stay around all those cheerful people, you push through to the souvenir shop to buy at least something that will remind the two of you of the Christmas event you failed to attend together.
