after all their fangirling and admiring was over and everyone had settled down, san was still up for that one hour of their time, regardless of the fact that both of them had to be up for work early in the morning. san didn't seem to care about this either way; neither did wooyoung, but he still used it as an excuse to avoid him for the rest of the night. and so, yeosang and yunho reluctantly bid their goodbyes to the celebrities as they vanished into san's apartment. after they were gone, yeosang and yunho drove back to their own apartment late in the night since they had to be up for work the next day as well.

"we missed you at work," hongjoong said, looking down at wooyoung who was spread across the studio floor, covered in sweat. "you're early today."

wooyoung had come in to work on his first day back earlier than the rest of his colleagues so he could spend some time by himself, in order to free his mind of overwhelming thoughts that clung onto him like a leech. he'd basically just decided to dance his worries away.

he slicked back the sweaty strands of hair that had come loose from the ponytail he'd tied them up in and stared silently at hongjoong, trying to catch his breath.

hongjoong plopped down on the ground next to him, falling back. wooyoung tilted his head and stared at him curiously. he was acting different. he'd normally be talking everyone's head off as soon as he entered the building. it was just a tad bit annoying to anyone that wasn't much of a talker like wooyoung, but seeing him be so quiet and distant was discomforting.

"what's up?" he asked instinctively as soon as a sigh erupted from hongjoong.

"i broke up with my girlfriend," his response came after a long pause. he stared mindlessly at the ceiling and wooyoung followed his gaze, pursing his lips. how do you comfort someone in a situation like this?

"don't bother with comforting me," he continued as if he could read wooyoung's silence. "i'm fine."

he really didn't seem like it. the silence was almost deafening as wooyoung pondered over whether he should give his unsolicited advice or just take hongjoong's word for it and stay quiet.

though he had always spoken so endearingly of her, wooyoung always knew deep down that this would end up being the one thing hongjoong was wrong about. even a person as inexperienced as wooyoung could tell a toxic relationship apart from a healthy one.

"i was wrong," hongjoong continued. it was almost like he was reading wooyoung's mind. was he? wooyoung faced him suspiciously, but the boy was in a world of his own, staring at the ceiling. "i guess i was just convincing myself that i could take all the pain and hurting." hongjoong finally shifted his gaze, meeting eyes with wooyoung. "love isn't supposed to hurt, is it?"

those words brought about an ache in wooyoung's chest. he didn't really know why. "i don't think so." wooyoung responded awkwardly. hongjoong went back to boring holes into the ceiling with his intense, sad eyes, crossing his arms behind his head.
