"he said he loves you?!" yeosang exclaimed, dropping the glass of apple juice he was holding in his hand.
yunho clicked his tongue and slapped the boy's arm. "i just vacuumed the house today!" he cried out. "you better clean this mess up by yourself now, or else..."
"okay, okay!" yeosang exclaimed defensively before getting up, his entire shirt dripping wet. he left a trail of drops on the floor as he walked, and yunho slammed his palm to his forehead. mirae, who was sitting on the couch behind them, rolled her eyes. for some odd reason, she didn't really seem to have much to say about san. wooyoung thought it was because she'd finally given up on trying to lecture him. he was grateful, though it'd been nice to have someone around to give you a reality check now and then.
"so what's the plan now?" yunho tapped wooyoung's thigh gently to bring him back to the conversation. "are you guys going to make it official or what?"
wooyoung shook his head. "we aren't even dating yet... what's there to go official about?"
he hadn't really thought about the situation that far. yunho's question raised a good point; what would become of san and wooyoung's relationship with each other now, after he'd confessed his feelings? where exactly did wooyoung stand in the celebrity's life?
yeosang returned with a tissue box in his hand, and he had changed his shirt as well. "huh? you're not dating?" he frowned and sat down next to wooyoung. "then why did he say the l-word? doesn't that means he wants to start something serious?"
"we didn't talk about any of that," wooyoung said, shrugging. "besides, it would be unfavorable for both of us. i mean, he's a celebrity after all."
"we're way past that," yeosang rolled his eyes. "you're far too deep to back out now by using his status as an excuse," he shifted around the couch and turned to face wooyoung curiously. "you tell me. how would you feel if he asks to go public?"
wooyoung bit down on his lip as he thought about the question. he'd asked the same thing to himself time and time again, but for some reason, no matter how hard he pondered over it, he could never get an answer. he sighed, looking down at his lap.
"you seriously haven't thought about... never mind. i, personally, would feel great. i mean, the hate will only last a moment in the grand scheme of things. he's choi san, for god's sake!" yeosang exclaimed and leaned back against the couch. "but you are both guys, so i get why you're hesitant. we don't know how people would react in a country like this.." he trailed off, looking deep in thought.
"hey," yunho began, "times have changed and so have people's mindsets. they're not going to lynch either san or wooyoung just because of their choices."
mirae nodded. "he's right, that isn't our primary concern. it's the fact that it's choi san that we're talking about. his fans will actually hunt you down. don't you remember what happened to the actress from two love scandals ago? she hasn't gotten a gig ever since. wait, i'll show you.." she said, taking her phone that was lying on the coffee table.
"he's not an actor so he doesn't have to worry," yeosang retorted quickly. "but you're right. his fans are dangerous people."
san's fanbase was truly crazy; even wooyoung pitied whoever ended up in a love scandal with the celebrity. he recalled how terrified san looked when they'd initially met, and there was a group of his fans behind them by the market. wooyoung definitely didn't want to be roped in to a world like his, where he'd be in the spotlight 24/7.
"um..." mirae trailed off, looking up at wooyoung with widened eyes. she hugged her phone to her chest anxiously, before checking the screen again in disbelief. wooyoung knitted his eyebrows, watching curiously as yunho leaned in to get a better look at what she was gaping at.
"that's someone else, isn't it?" mirae stammered. "we didn't go on the ferris wheel yesterday."
ferris wheel?
yunho snatched the phone from mirae's hand and scooted closer to yeosang. he leaned over yeosang's lap to let him and wooyoung be able to see whatever was on the screen. "this isn't you, is it, woo? we didn't go here yesterday," yunho huffed. "don't tell me he's been messing with you all this time."
"Choi San's Latest Love Scandal?" the article read in big, bold letters.
wooyoung skimmed over the words, a jumble about how san had stepped out of the limelight after his scandal with yoon semi, only to come back with another scandal. and the picture attached to the article was one of choi san on the ferris wheel. doing what? kissing wooyoung, of course.
wooyoung's throat ran dry. the picture had been taken from a distance, so all that could be seen was his hair, and his face was shielded by san's hand. san, on the other hand... his entire side profile was exposed, and anyone could tell it was him.
"that's me," wooyoung declared, frozen in his spot from anxiety. what was he going to do about this? it wouldn't be long before people realized it was a man and a commoner at that, and soon a social media search party would ensue, all with the intentions of finding wooyoung's identity.
the article gave him the biggest reality check in a while, and he could only wish it came sooner. he was so lost in his own world, enjoying with his celebrity next door, even in public, for everyone to see. he'd chosen to follow his heart instead of his brain—the worst decision one could make. wooyoung had made a mistake. a huge mistake. and to make matters worse, this had to come one day after the celebrity confessed his feelings. were the heavens really watching them, waiting for them to fall too deep into it before they smacked some sense into wooyoung? what kind of sick joke was this?
if choi san's feelings were truly genuine, then wooyoung hated himself for asking himself whether it had all been really worth it. all the things he'd done with the actor, taking care of him, getting mad at him, worrying about him, kissing him... wouldn't he have been fine without all of it? did he really have to walk into this mess for the fun of it, just because he'd gotten tired of his mundane life?
wooyoung pursed his lips, eyes fixated on the article. his friends were painfully silent. yunho rubbed his face with his hands. "fuck.." he mumbled to himself. mirae was even more concerned than the boys, and she chewed on her nails nervously.
"...what are you gonna do?" yeosang finally broke the silence, freeing himself from the trance he was in. "what do you think san is gonna do?"
wooyoung shook his head, completely lost on the situation. all he knew was that he'd fucked up with choi san.
